We hope all of you have a great holiday season and wonderful Christmas. Thanks so much for being part of the Cycling News community in 2025 and beyond!
More women’s teams are looking to do a double program, especially those applying for WT licences under the new system. Fewer teams with bigger squads (and maybe more stability and better facilities) seems to be the end game.
Ensing is a really handy rider but I will also be interested to see...
Danny Stam has said his priority is to remain an independent women's team, but I suppose that might change, since he'd also like a bigger budget for another 6 or 7 riders so they can field two teams at once more comfortably. Might be something of test case for the future of women's cycling...
Jumbo have the strongest team, I think, just about, although it's possible that having the jersey from stage one will hurt them. And the form of the tour guys like Bennet and Kruiswijk may not be there.
Will Movistar support Carapaz fully? Not sure anyone can predict that :)
I voted Rogla...
The team that was Trek Drops before Trek went solo has announced it will continue next year. Not much detail yet, and most of the 2018 team have new homes already, so I imagine there is work to be done there. There are quite a few Wiggle riders with no 2019 team announced... Grace Garner seem...
Jolien D'hoore confirmed for Boels next year. Watch out world... with a top rank sprinter they will fancy winning every race they start.
And OnePro for women is dead already.
Re: Re:
Fair play to Trek for putting an interesting lineup together, but only EvD is currently ranked inside the top 20. ELB and Lotta don't win that often.
There may be more to come. Someone's got to be in for Lorena Wiebes from Parkhotel, shirley.
TV and media coverage of the domestic scene is similar for women’s UCI and men’s Conti teams I’d say… Tour Series, National Road Series. Maybe some more women’s teams get on telly thanks to La Course and the Madrid Challenge, and you may get some extra media from hiring well-known trackies...
Brailsford mentioned Pinot in 2014, didn’t he, in the “I’d love to win the Tour with a Frenchman” thing.
Seems implausible, but then I said that about Elissonde too. And look at him now.
For me, it was a rather tedious race. Going to North Wales and doing two small climbs... well, it's disappointing. Logistics can be an issue in those parts but even so, that was a tame finish top the week I thought.
Clearly there is much that's good about the race and the riders do seem to...
Re: Re:
I'm a big fan of Jolien D'Hoore and I think having that top class sprint option will open up new tactical options. For 2018, her track programme shouldn't interfere that much, unlike 2016.
But maybe they're a rider or two short of ideal, true.
10 riders presumably means they won’t send a full team to every race, given the clashes and near-clashes on the calendar these days.
That’s true of most teams to be fair. Plus Orica don’t have that many riders with other (track/cross/mtb) commitments. E.g Wiggle will have 16 but four want to...
Good luck Macey.
Wiggle will have 16 riders next year, and I think there will be room for various track and commie games ambitions. One more signing to be announced - Rochelle Gilmore says 8 new riders - and Amy Cure and Garners L and G expected to extend.
It’ll be interesting to see where Arzuffi and Confalonieri end up. They could interest both smaller and larger teams I think.
Carlee Taylor’s retiring… hasn’t felt the same since a nasty crash this year, apparently.
Also, Martina Ritter joins Wiggle. Seems like a good all round support...
