    Cycling DVD collection

Cycling DVDs I have a pretty large collection and I'm happy to swap coverage with others who collect old coverage (please just PM me). As an example here is my coverage of the World Championships (Road Race and Time Trial). The columns are year, BW/colour, commentary language (if it...

    Reactions from the peloton

I guess battling against Armstrong for a place on the podium in his breakthrough year at the 2009 tour de France wasn't that memorable. Wiggins also again talked about events "10 to 15 years ago" - seemingly forgetting that Armstrong retired in February 2011 (i.e. last year Wiggo). I'm a...

Should Sky have waited when Valverde fell?

Sportsmanship Hah! I didn't expect to hear the words "moral high ground" and "Valverde" in the same sentence this decade. To hear him talk about sportsmanship - the irony. However, I think its fair to say Sky don't have the moral or tactical high ground here either. It was funny to hear...

Carlton kirby - has to go !!

I'm sure he pays a lot of attention to tweets from someone of your stature. I don't think he's done a bad job on the first couple of stages of this year's Vuelta, definitely better than McCrossen on ITV4.

    Olympic Road Race Men

Yeah - they have one of the top sprinters in the world and got absolutely nothing. Very smart. O'Grady's not getting a medal wasn't bad luck - it was almost certain. Had it not been for Cancellara's crash, the Swiss team probably played the best race - almost their entire team in the key...

    Olympic Road Race Men

Aussie and German Teams; Commiserations to the Swiss Where were the Aussie and German teams???? You had two of the best sprinters in the race and (Martin apart and a little bit too late by the Germans) did nothing for them. Did the Aussie's really not chase for Goss because they thought...

The Sky-Con-O-Meter. Predictions on how much more ridiculous they can get

Apt description? Yes, cycling has a terrible recent history of doping, yes many outstanding performances have since been revealed to be the result of doping, but is Wiggins' performance really that unbelievable? - The course is perfectly suited to him - hardly any difficult (i.e. high...

At what point do you turn off the TV and give up on the Tour?

Try tennis If you want dull racing - take a look at the final week of last year's Vuelta or the 2010 Tour. Last year's Tour was the best in a long time and, whilst this year is missing the epic Mountain stages (though fingers crossed for Wednesday and Thursday) it has still been a great...

    Vuelta last week disappointment thread.

A very dull final week after a great first two weeks. The course itself was a big factor in this but the teams themselves showed a depressing lack of aggression and self-belief. Team Sky is a case in point. I can't work out if I should be impressed with them for placing 2nd and 3rd on the...

Dave Millar - anti doping hero

Again you make assumptions that are simply incorrect. At no place in this thread (or Millar in his book) suggested that the Saunier Duval riders were caught because of Millar. What Millar says, as I recounted here, is that he alerted the authorities before he left Saunier Duval. The fact that...

Dave Millar - anti doping hero

As I said - he contacted the authorities about them BEFORE Ricco and Piepoli were caught - ie before he left Saunier Duval. Contacting the authorities about your own team while you are still in it is a big deal - it exposes you to no small risk. Anyway - I'm no apologist for David Millar...

Dave Millar - anti doping hero

I've just read Slaying the Badger and the Millar book. I think both are good. If you haven't seen detailed coverage of the 1986 Tour you'll probably get a lot more from Slaying the Badger than if you have (to me it didn't really reveal a lot more than I already knew).

Dave Millar - anti doping hero

I don't believe Millar's book exposes dopers who have not yet been exposed. He certainly provides plenty of detail of the activities of those who have (Gaumant, VDB, etc, etc.) So no he doesn't go that far which is a fair point. Of course being fair to him he would also need to be careful...
