Teams & Riders Mark Cavendish Discussion Thread

This morning the Isle of Man Government announced that a Mark Cavendish fan zone is being created in the Villa Marina gardens, in Douglas, in readiness for Sunday and they are inviting cyclists from all over the island to join a procession from the National Sports Centre, where Cav began racing...

Alpecin was stupid for doing that just like Cav was stupid for moving left leaving himself open to nitpickers, fact is he's the strongest sprinter in the race and if he hadn't moved left he still would have won.

We're all like that here on the z And you obviously didn't notice the blatant move of the Alpecin-Fenix lead out guy to try to block Cav as he went backwards into the peloton. That sort of thing should result in the whole team being relegated.

Agreed. I still rank the stage he won in 2013 when echelon's caused a split in the peloton as my favourite. The likes of Cipo, Abdou, and Zabel would never have won a stage like that.

Imagine how many wins Cav might have had if HTC/Colombia had kept going. Everyone knows that Team Sky was a marriage of convenience and given Sky's focus on the GC with Wiggo, Cav's 3 stage wins that year were nothing short of miraculous. Then in 2013 he moved to Quickstep and they weren't...

In effect, Cav was competing against Greipel in 08-10 as they were in the same team. If Greipel wasn't considered good enough to be selected ahead of Cav and given the number of stages Cav amassed in that era then there can be no argument as to who is the better sprinter. Kittel, on the other...

Obviously not, but then I'm not saying he's going to win 5 stages this year either.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cav gets to 34 and stops because he respects cycling and the greats of the sport, but records are there to be broken and if he were to equal or even surpass it, then given what he has been through the last few years and the different generations of sprinters he has...

Vladimir Karpets will always be my favourite, just for that time he was getting dropped and David Duffield said "it's curtains for Karpets".

Tour de France Tour De France 2021, stage 1 (Brest-Landerneau, 197.8 km)

Reckon it will be Van Der Poel, Alaphillipe, and then Matthews tomorrow but a nervy finish in the wet could easily throw up a surprise.
