Tour de France Tour de France 2025, Stage 3: Valenciennes – Dunkerque (173.8k)

As a social scientist, I can't dislike this response.

    Giro d'Italia Giro d'Italia 2025 stage 20: Verrès – Sestrière, 205 km

I love it; just like 2018. Young rider appeared dominant throughout the race, and a mature rider (who had been written off at this point) went big on Finestre and won decisively. Full circle for Yates.

Tour de France Tour de France 2024, Stage 12: Aurillac > Villenueve-sur-Lot, 203.6km

250km at Gent. He's only 24 and is just coming into his own. I'm also observing that sprinters who do well in hard/uphill finishes (Sagan/Freire/Hushovd/etc) tend to have that skillset.

Love Girmay. Future WC, I hope. I hate this for Roglič.

Rogliĉ having a pretty good stage, all things considered. Falls off his bike.

Came here for comments about Remco's balls. Was not disappointed.

Girmay is killing it. I hope he keeps green all the way. Pog doesn't seem like his usual cheerful self.

Tour de France Tour de France 2024, Stage 7: Nuits-Saint-Georges > Gevrey-Chambertin, 25.3 km (ITT)

The TT was dominated by the top four GC guys, who all finished within 37 seconds of each other, head and shoulders above everybody else. Truth be told, I think that is the real story of this stage. This is really good for the race as a whole. None of the big favorites have crashed out; nor...

Tour de France Tour de France 2024, Stage 7: Nuits-Saint-Georges > Gevrey-Chambertin, 25.3 km (ITT)

That was really good from Rogliĉ. Remco was always going to win today. This could be the year he turns things around, but past performances have me expecting him to suddenly lose 12 or so minutes on a mountain stage later in the Tour. Pog is still in control. I had no expectations for...

Tour de France Tour de France Stage 6, Mâcon-Dijon, 162.5k

I think this is correct about sprinters and is likely exascerbated by the fact that since the 90s, we have been accustomed to most Grand Tours (and sometimes entire seasons) being dominated by a single top sprinter. I was in some debate yesterday about Cavendish; I was arguing that while...

I'd love to see Girmay take green in the end

    Tour de France Tour de France 2024, Stage 5: Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne > Saint-Vulbas, 177.4 km

He's pulled off some good sprints in the past couple of years; enough to show that he is still "there." I guarantee you that zero sprinters in this Tour viewed him as a washed up non-threat.

For clarity's sake, I intend less to compare boxing and cycling than to comment on how the public regards athletes and their accomplishments.
