Teams & Riders Tom Dumoulin discussion thread

I'm not insinuating anything as I don't know anything... But late december dutch TV aired a documentary where Dumoulin raised doubts about his performance in the Tour, reportedly saying "I'm having a hard time understanding. I don't see how I could have gone 90" faster". (sorry, source is in...

Candidate cage match: Alejandro Valverde vs. Sean Kelly

I think the main difference between those 2 riders is that Kelly was among the best sprinters in a peloton sprint. Valverde is fast, but the points jerseys he won were due to the uphill finishes in the Vuelta. I don't think I've ever seen him going at it in a peloton sprint.

Teams & Riders Julian Alaphilippe Discussion Thread

At this point in the season, he has very little to gain at la Flèche. If he doesn't win, everybody will say that he partied too much or something... all this for a race he's already won twice. It'd be great to see him fight for the win at Liège and Amstel, maybe even Flanders ?

    Antoine Vayer

So... because you label Rousse & Alaphilippe as "suspect" and "not trustworthy", Marion Rousse should have shut her mouth on the subject of this cartoon ? What a very twisted way of turning things upside down... If you don't get the issue with that cartoon there's very little we can do to help...

Teams & Riders Thibaut Pinot discussion thread

All I'm saying is that it's different to be angry at your gear (throwing the bike), angry at someone (throwing a bottle at him/her) and being angry with yourself.

Teams & Riders Thibaut Pinot discussion thread

Throwing a bottle at someone is different, and not unusual. I remember Kelly/Vanderaerden in 1985...

Teams & Riders Thibaut Pinot discussion thread

Ha ha ! Good point... and point taken. That said, maybe i'm reading too much in this and maybe I overestimate my "psycho / mind reader" skills, BUT... In this video I see winners frustrated with a mechanical. They destroy the bike and that's it. Sheer frustration against the bike itself. They...

    Antoine Vayer

I'm not necessarily a fan of Antoine Vayer. He's weird but weirdness can go both ways : good and bad. I think he's not very good at PR since he is annoying so many people. That said, who else puts a spotlight on "suspicious" performances ? I don't really see anyone else in the press or social...

Teams & Riders Thibaut Pinot discussion thread

I wouldn't describe Pinot as "weak", mentally. I mean he's overcome a lot of bad luck over the years. That said, I find he has a tendancy to lose it. The way he threw his bottle on the ground when he didn't have the legs at the Dauphiné, the way he exploded on the cobblestones stage in the Tour...

Official Lance Armstrong Thread: Part 4 (Post-Settlement)

I think not asking for Voldemort to be put in jail is a sign of compassion. I didn't watch the doco. Unless he admits motor doping, it's not juicy enough.

    Indurain in the '96 Tour

Just answering about Indurain : I remember him being interviewed sometime later, probably 1997, after he retired, he admitted that in 1996 he'd tell his coach he was going for a 200km training ride and only did 100km. In fact, he made cycling so boring that even he was bored, eventually...

    Romain Bardet Discussion Thread

I think Bardet already peaked with this team. They can't pull him faster nor further. I also think his best chance of winning a GT would be the Vuelta but since he'll always ride the Tour... He's so thin that I doubt his body can endure 2 GC chases in GT within the same year. I'm sure he'd do...

    Most disappointing drug suspension?

Probably Laurent Fignon. What was even more disappointing was his way of saying "I'll admit it, I have no problem with this" in his autobiography and at the same time clearly trying to make it look casual. He basically said that (I think it was the summer of 1989, between the Tour and the...

Official Lance Armstrong Thread: Part 4 (Post-Settlement)

Re: Official Lance Armstrong Thread: Part 4 (Post-Settlement I agree, hate takes a lot of energy and Voldemort clearly isn't worth it. And, to some extent, I only wish him the best if he is indeed genuine and contrite. That said... I think the outcome of that story for many, many people...
