    Vuelta a Andalucia (Ruta Del Sol) 2.HC // 18.2 - 22.2

Thanks for the excellent write up of today's stage. It is one of the best, if not THE best I have ever read. Wish you would have posted who wrote it.

Vuelta a Espana, Stage 8: Talavera de la Reina - San Lorenzo de El Escorial, 183km

It's 20%; makes Valdepenas look easy. I'm no cycle computer so I can't confirm positively, but it's the nastiest finish I've seen in 4 years of doing all the grand tours. The cobbles were "Mater" like for about a k, then they flattened out for about 500 meters, then the pitch went up. There...

    At the Vuelta?

Riding from Cajar, A-395 up to Sierra Nevada Ski Station, then to Pico Veleta, at 3398 meters (Thirty-THREE-Ninety-Eight), Riding white Billato, wearing Quick Step. Join me? Noonish-around ski station, or earlier on the A-395. Back by 3 for the Vuelta finish.

Alto de L'Angliru V Monte Zoncolan. Which climb is harder?

Apology: Pico Veleta is only 3398, not 3498. Per Google. Thanks,

Alto de L'Angliru V Monte Zoncolan. Which climb is harder?

There's no road to Mulhacen. Also I wasn't claiming it's the highest, only up there. Mulhacen is about 5 k from Veleta, you can see it from there, but you can't ride to it.

Alto de L'Angliru V Monte Zoncolan. Which climb is harder?

Crostis, not that hard; very steady @ 10-11% for about 11 k; then in the 12-13% range for the last 3 k. It's mostly in the woods and a bit boring, but there are not any rest spots and you are certainly tired at the top. Not fierce like Z. or Angirlu, and not a 20k climb like Finestre. It...

Alto de L'Angliru V Monte Zoncolan. Which climb is harder?

The day before the 2009 race, I went up Angrilu in a heavy rain. Started raining as I stepped out of my car in La Vega, rained harder all the way up. Used a 39-27 gear. No stops, except when my foot came off pedal on the hard part. I had to clip in one side, lean on the rock, clip in other...

Vuelta a Espana Stage 1: Benidorm TTT 13.5km

It felt a lot harder than 5%, I think because the first pitch from the underpass @ 100 meters in, to the 1st traffic circle is about 10%, to the 2nd maybe 8% then easier.

    Velonews becomes Bicycling magazine

A long time ago Style Man (in Bicycling) was really funny. Who was he (real name?)

    Great "unknown" climbs

Pico Veleta is harder over Monachil/El Purche. El Purche is fierce in it's own right. I have also been up to Pico Veleta, road bike, September, 2010. There is several 14%'s and some over 20%'s over El Purche.

Ladies TDF as support race for TDF?

Several classics (Ronde for sure) run ladies races same day as men's. Women start in Oudenaarde, race to Ninove.

    Biggest Sports Disappointment?

Have you forgotten the 1954 American League Pennant for the Tribe? Who could forget the great starting rotation of Early Wynn, Bob Feller, Bob Lemon and Mike Garcia? Luke Easter, Al Rosen, Bobby Avila, Jim Higgins, et.al.? Have you forgotten the 1964 NFL championship for the Browns, led by...
