Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

I don't think it's a weight problem as much as the volume of miles that makes a good GT rider. Jay Vine is a Zwift phenom and can win stages. How durable is he likely to be and can he TT near well enough to be a podium contender? Maybe in time. Roglic was one of the few mature racers that...

    Tom 'Pidders' Pidcock

That's pretty much a limitation on GT's unless he has the luck to get all uphill TT's. It may be why he isn't more invested. He's winning well over many disciplines and deserves to be appreciated for that talent. I see him in the picture this Vuelta but don't know what kind of support he gets...

    Vuelta a España Vuelta a España 2025, Stage 6: Olot – Pal, 170.3k

I haven't read upthread but I gotta say the roads on that last climb are gorgeous. Like the prep the Tour does for the Haut Savoie roads! Love to ride those.

....and he's not flagellating himself trying to stay on someone's wheel.

Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

Has he ever dedicated 2 seasons for pure GT prep? In my experience even the most talented riders need more than one well-prepared big race to a)be strong enough to comfortably know what happens, what could happen and how well they're able to respond b)be confident enough in yourself and know...

You have your answer to the question in the first sentence.

Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

Roglic can but some of his crashes have come by trying to force the outside edges too much. It's better than trying to stay in the middle where chaos reigns. I'm not sure he's the guy to teach Remco to be more comfortable as much as Remco needs to watch guys that always seem to be where they...

What other choice does UAE have? Ayuso made the decision for them.

    What if Armstrong

Thanks for the infill; particularly on George. On Mont/Subie LA was a member of the US TTT group destined for Barcelona. They trained in Utah at a house owned by (fill in the principal's name...you know who it is). After a week of training Eddy B requested all riders to appear, one at a time...

    Vuelta a España Vuelta a España 2025, Stage 6: Olot – Pal, 170.3k

UAE showed what can happen after a TTT to riders forced to go that fast protecting their GC. The hangover in the hamstrings can be brutal. Almeida did what he should have and some other out-of-GC guys could've gone back to console Ayuso. That's all anyone could do, for sure. Separately I...

    Ban Team Time Trials ?

Seriously watching 3 cars bump-drafting alongside groups on either side doing the same seems like taking an Atlas rocket launch naked and not strapped in. I'm sure if they had an in-car camera on the driver's "hydration" tubes leaving the racing suit they'd find one heading to the floor...

    Ban Team Time Trials ?

You hit on the real possibility of improving a fan's viewing experience and knowledge to make this a very-watched discipline. Watching 5 continuous hours of Vuelta/Giro/Tour landscape is for the few. If you had a consequential TTT stage that was produced by the media properly it could be very...

    Ban Team Time Trials ?

Nascar has a version of that on the Superspeedways. 20 car pileups at 200 mph is a typical occurrence but sadistically fun to watch. A cycling version would be the same thing except no one walks away from crashes. At least not with their kit intact.

    Vuelta a España Vuelta a España 2025, Stage 5: Figueres – Figueres, 24.1k (TTT)

Can be a snoozer to watch but the absolutely most intense to ride. Need total faith not only on the wheel you ride but everyone in front of you. There always is that one guy.....and the reality is at some part of the rotation he'll be several wheels in front of you. You start looking at any...
