TDF Stage 17 - Thursday, July 22 2010, Pau - Col du Tourmalet, 174 km

I think the thought is if that rider comes back they are both isolated and lost. The only real tactical hope is that Sastre could have bridged the gap, then he has a fresh teammate to latch on to and use the rest of the breakaway as well.

The official debate: Should Contador have waited for Schleck?

Are you serious? What a sychophant.

The official debate: Should Contador have waited for Schleck?

Anti-spanish? Not one person has mentioned Contador's native country. This is about a specific rider, not the country he calls home.

The official debate: Should Contador have waited for Schleck?

Well in retrospect I'm kind of glad Contador was a bit of a *** today. Sure ramps up the intrigue for the next few stages . . . I mean, if this had not happened, we would have watched a benign "same time" finish by the AC/AS, with handshakes and politeness all around. Yawn.

The official debate: Should Contador have waited for Schleck?

That's what I said earlier - feel exactly the same way. Not waiting can be defended, but lying about it afterwards makes it clear that he has his own moral issues with what he did.

So the majority of the people at the awards ceremony today were Americans?

Wow, they actually swore him in? Those post-race interviews are getting brutal.

Maybe Lance won't return his texts?

With that gushing sign-off, you have no business calling anyone else a fanboy. ;)

The official debate: Should Contador have waited for Schleck?

This isn't just an AC/LA phenomenon. It has to do with the fact that some "cycling fans" cannot find a way to keep interested in the sport unless they can spin every event into something that justifies their "Lance-love" or "Lance-hatred". Someone earlier suggested that the best thing about...

The official debate: Should Contador have waited for Schleck?

Really? 2003: "On the finishing climb of Luz Ardiden Armstrong attacked with Iban Mayo close behind. Rounding a corner a young spectator held out a musette bag that hooked Armstrong's handle bars sending both he and Mayo to the pavement. Ullrich swerved and avoided the crash. But rather than...

The official debate: Should Contador have waited for Schleck?

So here's another idle question aimed primiarily at those who criticize Contador's decision today - if the roles are reversed tomorrow and Schleck attacks after a Contador mechanical - is he justified "eye for an eye" or must he wait because sportsmanship should be respected regardless of...

The official debate: Should Contador have waited for Schleck?

Mildly disagree. There is no absolute right or wrong that must be accepted by everyone, but each person is free to judge right or wrong as against their own personal codes of sportsmanship. As I said earlier, Contador could have avoided any questions about his sportsmanship by waiting -- he did...

The official debate: Should Contador have waited for Schleck?

They do? What does today's incident have to do with Armstrong? Or are you one of those "cycling fans" who can't get it up unless Armstrong has something to do with the result?

The official debate: Should Contador have waited for Schleck?

I think Contador has a moral issue with what he did. Otherwise, why lie and claim that he "was not aware" that Schleck had a problem? It's ironic, because I think there are several legitimate reasons to have not waited for Schleck - but to claim that he did not have to consider the moral issue...
