    Phil Gaimon's Magic Cookies?

I know Phil like third hand through some folks. His time was good enough for 3rd at US Elite Nationals, which isn't the deepest pool, but was a nice elite level time (4:30.6). Not exactly Boardman '96, but fast. That said, if you've watched any of his climbing data, he's well suited for...

Most ridiculous performances/races of the Rio Olympics

Re: Re: You kind of have to wonder if a lot people pushed the envelope on doping (especially re: various blood values) since they knew the Rio lab was so incompetent.

Most ridiculous performances/races of the Rio Olympics

4:16 is fast. Even as aero as Cav is (and I think he's relatively less aero to others in TT position versus road. Meaning he's REALLY aero on a road bike, and of about average aero on a TT setup) you would still need to come close to 490W for that 4 km time. I just pulled up the splits between...

Most ridiculous performances/races of the Rio Olympics

Re: Re: Yes, because it's glaringly obvious to me, because I know the event well. The 10,000 is obviously a little more suspect, but Cav improving 10-11 seconds in the pursuit in a month and a half, while riding the tour (which while great training, isn't pursuit training), is insane.

Cavendish, 4:16 flat out. Nothing else close, except maybe that 10,000M.

how easy to micro dope and avoid positives?

Your still talking about nebulous effects to doping. It's not like cycling--where if you take X amount of EPO, you will ride up Alpe du Huez Y faster. Any other sport--football (American and not), baseball, and tennis doping has much more questionable benefit. It helps undoubtedly--but there...

The case for/against transfusion. For science geeks.

I believe Clenbuterol is generally sold in 20 ug pills. One question on this theory--I thought when blood doping, the plasma was spun off, and just the packed red cells were infused. Wouldn't that eliminate most of the anything he could test positive for?

So when did Lance start doping?

I had a random thought come into my head last night. I am fairly certain Lance was doping pre-cancer, given some of the rides he did against supercharged fields. In the wake of widespread EPO abuse, the 50% hematocrit rule came into effect in 1997. Could Lance's physiology benefitted from the...

    Mercury & the UCI

I've known guys on domestic teams who've gotten payouts from the guarantee, but they generally try to hold out until the end of the season, because if the team doesn't replenish the funds, they are suspended from the UCI, and the riders can't race. It's a really screwed up situation.

The Middle Path: make cycling easier or allow some doping

Just from a purely medical perspective, EPO (with blood parameters) is a lot safer than doing transfusions. I offer no comment on the suggestion, or any other health risks (acceleration of tumor growth)

HemAssist . What do forumites know?

I thought about the rogue manufacturing process, but then I looked up how hemassist is made. You need to start with a decent amount of human hemoglobin which is then modified, these kinds of drugs are really difficult to make. It's not nearly as simple, as say Viagra, which is just a salt...

UCI doubts Contador will ride 2011 Tour.

I've thought all along that AC should say that the meat in question was cooked sous vide--takes care of the plastic issue. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sous-vide

    Armstrong Accuses LeMond of Doping!

In 1989, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the hormone, called Epogen, which remains in use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erythropoietin And also. http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cder/drugsatfda/index.cfm?fuseaction=Search.DrugDetails Not sure if that FDA link is...

G.I. JOEEEEEE! [Tsunami of USADA cases against cyclists]

So I guess this means no other pros on today's start list were directly involved with Joe.
