Me too, though I'll admit that Italian climbers are a bit of a blind spot for me. Unlike Vansevant, who I've had before, and chose to forget how frustrating he can be as a pick.

I went with Mohoric and was looking forward to seeing how the two compared over the next two months. That's terrible timing in terms of his impact on the game :confused_old:

I said the next few years. Apart from Vingo, they have no one on the horizon who will be competitive?

Yeah, I'm not sure Vermeersch would have been any better or worse, had he stayed at Lotto. His apparent progress at UAE is mostly due to him learning to avoid crashes, which he'd shown enough of in 2024, but then ended up towing De Lie around for a lot the season. Wish he stayed, but the...

Ardeche has poorer TV coverage, but it was clearly a better race, as shown by everyone arriving in ones or twos with big time gaps. Moreover, surely no cycling fan is going to complain about the progress of Sexias? He's our only hope of competing against Pogacar/UAE in the next few years.

52nd Volta ao Algarve em Bicicleta (18-22 February)

Ayuso always starts the season in great form. If he can actually maintain it in a different environment, could be another one for the mothership?

Early season Ayuso is a phenomenon.

Very strong performance again from Ineos. Dan Bigham leaving doesn't seem to have affected them as much as was anticipated.

Sorry. Unwritten rules of the game are that you must remain vaguely optimistic till the end of the Giro. Then stoically reset your goals to a top half finish.

UAE presents some logistical difficulties/not much fun? Andalucia parcours is pretty feeble. Probably the best warm-up race before the European WT races begin?

Ayuso has been very strong in his first few days of racing for the last two seasons. Think he'll go for this sooner rather than later.

Oh no. Tiberi was one of the first on my team, but the cat incident kept playing on my mind and there were a lot of alternatives this year. Not judging those who did pick him. He was young, and everyone makes mistakes. Went with O'Connor instead on the basis that he'd get a lot of relatively...

Have been quite lucky regarding Van Gils. Pretty much the last one shuffled out of my team after the deadline day choice of Gee-West, but kept Gaudu at a similar point level, who I was much more dubious about. Just a bad, panicky decision, which I seem to have got away with. Fortune turns and it...

Luckily he seems to be ok, but agree that they're both a bit of a menace in any kind of close sprint.
