Yeah that's all fine and well but there's a point where its just a sport and these riders are just guys that none of us have any control over. Why get so worked up over it?

Why do so many people get so heavily invested in people they don't know? It's bizarre.

    Awesome news !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get your point gwessel2. It's matter of principle. This type of government support for sporting events, centers, etc goes on all over the country. Some are winners and some are losers but they all have the common theme of having a study done prior showing how economically beneficial they'll...

Really? Bike racing has been on the public dole that long? Wow. I learn something every day. Again, if its profitable let the private sector deal with it (same with your state fair). And BTW, the new keynesian club is to your left. Au Revoir

Since when was a bike race a public project? Again, if the thing is a profitable venture the private sector will fund it. And you still get your tax receipts without big brother spending taxpayers money trying to pick market winners (which they're notoriously bad at).

    Awesome news !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was that the argument? So $1.5million of taxpayers money will yield more than $1.5 million in new taxes? Really? It went from a $600 million in impact to $60 million. I find all of these arguments dubious. Show me the math. And as I have pointed out, if it's that profitable then the people...

    Awesome news !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off that's a huge difference. Secondly, I'd still like to see the math. Finally, let the private sector pay for it if it's profitable. Look, I may be coming up off as a big wet blanket but it's just a matter of priorities. These arguments are the same lame ones that baseball/football...

I love your counter argument. It's almost as well thought out as what you're critical of.

    Awesome news !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please show the math that came up with a $600 million dollar imapct. And if you can I fail to see why it would need government handout outs. If the private sector saw that benefit they wouldn't have hestitated financing it.

Did I say I advocate that? Let them go belly up.

And not spending $1.5 million reduces the public tax burden by $1.5 million. That's $1.5 million in economic impact. And if it's deficit spending it's more. Keynes was wrong.

    Awesome news !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why should taxes be used for a bike race? That's a grotesque use of public funds.

    Mt Washington

You're kidding, right? Turning a 39x25 @90 would be 11mph (if I did the math right). A fast time up that 7.6 mile mountain road is 1 hour 10 minutes. I don't think Tyler Hamilton juiced can spin a 39 x 25 up that. And I'm not pretending to be a pro rider.

    Mt Washington

I'm registered for the hill climb and am curious if anyone here has first hand experience with that hill? I climb a lot out west but nothing as steep as the 7.6 mile road on Mt Washington. Any gearing suggestions? Should I be thinking about a triple? Thanks in advance
