Anyone know why Cav finished 100ish?

Im a Cavendish fan, but it looks like he is done.

WOW ! What a finish. It was the perfect scenario for Nibali. I'm sure it was just as he planned. Attack on the Poggio, descend like a madman, and pray you don't get caught in the last 2k. As a Cav fan, it was painful to watch him crash. He does have a win here though, probably his only.
