Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

It is clear to me that he still has a footballing mindset. In soccer (im a coach/ref) you can use that your advantage. The requiered effort os much shorter and explosive. The boost of adrenaline is really useful to give everything for 5 minutes. It always amazes me how a team can be subdued for...

This time I would give him the benefit of the doubt. His saddle was confirmed broken and lowered by 20mm. The effort on mount Kigali was enormous, the race very though. He went over the limit (like most) but the lower saddle caused cramps - logical with the required effort (the route was hard...

Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

You can't deny that he was one of the most talented riders to emerge the last years; backed up by some great results. Logical that some of his fans had the biggest of expectations. The simple fact is that Remco is not a natural GT rider and never will be, despite the obvious talent. Vingeard and...

He definitely isn’t at his best, bad preparation or even losing some of his powers after several serious injuries. And going very deep yesterday combined with lesser form, makes for lesser recuperation then your competition. He didn’t just have a bad day yesterday, the condition isn’t there.

nailed it. I saw a stat a couple months back on pro sportsmen returning after major injuries. After 1 about 66/75 % got back to their old values. After 2 this went down to 15%. Remco has got 3 in his young career. I fear we will never see the potential he had at 18/19 yo.

Teams & Riders Official Wout Van Aert thread

Indeed you missed my point, ofc Pogacar and MVDP are the better riders. Van aert is the most versatile but he might end up with the resume of a bits and pieces player. I find it really hard to say if he really has a weakness on monuments or that he just has been unlucky and mismanaged. Look at...

Teams & Riders Official Wout Van Aert thread

I think the only thing wrong with WVA has been that he is too good in too many things. He is the best allround cyclist in a very long time. He can win bunch sprints, he is top ITT, he can win any classic and probably could ride top 5 in a GT if he focussed on it. And he isnt to bad at cyclo...

E3 Saxo Classic 2025, one day classic, March 28

True, not looking good for WVA. He will be known as a good rider that never really made it. Massive potential, maybe the most versatile of all greats today, but never the undisputed number 1 and massivly unlucky. Could have nicked 2-3 classics from MVDP, injuries, corona,...

Teams & Riders Filippo Ganna Discussion Thread

Great race, just made the same small mistake as many others, letting mvdp dictate the sprint. Take the lead and let mvdp overtake you, with tailwind and ganna the highest top speed of those 3 , he sure could have won.

Should the route of Milano—Sanremo change?

why change? Not to make it so that the same 5 riders that dominate other races win here to? It’s great that riders from sprinters to lightweight climbers can both win. I would prefer a race that has more possible scenarios then now, combined with the same mix of riders. I saw editions with la...

[content deleted]Contador only won the tour 2009 dominating the field. 2007 and 2010 were very close. Nibali’s was probably more dominant than Contador ever realized in the tdf. Contador has the best gt record of that generation, but you always felt that he could be beaten if he wasn’t 100%...

Teams & Riders Cian Uijtdebroeks - From the wetlands to the top of cycling

A few weeks ago there was big discussion on age groups in football teams. An interesting fact was that people can differ 3-4 years in development. Thats why you get so many riders winning Avenir and then doing nothing as a pro. So peaking early can mean a lot or nothing at the same time...

Teams & Riders Cian Uijtdebroeks - From the wetlands to the top of cycling

A single simple physical issue would and should probably have been found now. This is a guy that has been racing at 150 % very early , got a few good results (not exceptional) and was expected to step up even more. And it is not happening. Might be one of those that peaked early and never gets...

Giro d'Italia Giro d'Italia 2025 Route: Speculation, Rumours and Announcements

I have a feeling that this rather bland and average route serves different purposes: - provide a close and exciting race for as long as possible - convince the top 5 GT riders to ride the Giro by presenting a rather easy route that makes it possible to do 2 GT / year. They want Pog, Vinge...

Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

Add to that the incredibly bad Belgian roads and road design, combining all kinds of traffic, congestion, and absolutely selfish and dangerous driving style of all road users… no offense but riding 50 kmh in a city center is often asking for trouble. I am a rider myself but half of the time I...
