Response to the Mapei as the best team ever article.

Had he come back he would have brought Zanini with him and Zanini would have beaten the 4 Mapeis in a sprint...:D

Response to the Mapei as the best team ever article.

They were very organized, had a training complex led by Aldo Sassi and the best riders in the peloton. That's why they won. The best people, the resources and the passion. It's hard to believe that these people (Sassi and Squinzi) had an organized doping program.

Response to the Mapei as the best team ever article.

Yes, they were supposed to attack Indurain but ended up dropped just like the Big Mig.

Yes, that and San Remo, even though Pozzato, Bettini, Cancellara and Freire all went on to win it after leaving Mapei!

Response to the Mapei as the best team ever article.

Mapei was always competitive at the Giro. Pavel Tonkov was the leader in 1997, 1998 and 2000 but wasn't strong enough to win it (the team even won the teams classification in 1998). In 2002, they had Garzelli, Bettini, Nardello, Noe, Evans and Cioni, not a bad Grand Tour team at all... At the...

Response to the Mapei as the best team ever article.

To me, Mapei was the coolest team ever. Such a great jersey...:D They won hundreds of classics with style, always with 3, 4 ou 5 riders capable of winning. Michele Bartoli, Frank VDB, Johan Museeuw, Tom Steels, Franco Ballerini, Gianni Bugno, Paolo Bettini, Andrea Tafi, Daniele Nardello...

    Most memorable doped perfomances?

Mapei won Paris-Roubaix several times because they were the best team by far. It was like watching Real Madrid at Wigan. Nobel Prize: Floyd Landis Tour de France performance. Notable reference do Frank Vdb and his 1999 Vuelta perfomances. That was amazing to watch. His burst of speed at...

    Stefano Garzelli's 2002 probenecid bust - doping or stitch-up?

I don't know but i remember that Mapei forced him to continue in that Giro until the counter-analysis came out. It was a strange situation... I admired that team (fell in love with the team kit when i first saw it) and i believe that mr. Squinzi and the director of the Mapei Centre Aldo Sassi...

    Stefano Garzelli's 2002 probenecid bust - doping or stitch-up?

Mr. Hein Verbruggen openly criticised mr. Giorgio Squinzi's (Mapei Boss) allegations that all the Top 5 Grand Tour riders of the late 90's were doped. There was also bad blood because he claimed that the Mapei team monopolised the young talents market (Pozzato, Cancellara, Rogers, Eisel, Davis...

    Pro Cycling Manager 2010

Yes, it's true. Unfortunately the route of the Grand Tours remains the same (2010 edition) as you progress. I'm in the third season and nothing changes. In the previous PCM they changed the course every year, including stages from the 2007 and 2008 editions and also changed races like Paris-Nice...
