In a situation where there's a tactical game to be played, you want to bet your money on MVDP. And not on Van Aert, for instance. MVDP usually makes all the right choices in the final of a race. It's not just physical strength.

Perhaps. On the other hand, Tejada was 4th in UAE, Vauquelin was 5th in Algarve, Lenny Martinez was right up there with Jorgenson and Christen in the Faun-Ardèche classic. And we've seen that Jorgenson and Christen aren't exactly in bad shape.

Teams & Riders Jonas Vingegaard thread: Love in Iberia

I didn't quite expect this level of form after Vingegaard's trainer was sacked/left of his own volition, just last month. You'd think there would be some kind of emergency. Now whether it's his new trainer or it doesn't really have anything to do with it, either way he looks back to his best...

He wasn't there to help Vauquelin because he was helping Onley. If you don't like that, take it up with the Ineos directors.

Deserved for Jorgenson to ride himself on the podium after crashing in the wheel of MVDP the other day. And certainly after inexplicably being used as a domestique for WVA once again while clearly being the stronger rider at this moment. Del Toro's overall win seems like a done deal.

Well, okay, third. Still not pack fodder though :)

I suppose you're kidding, because Vingegaard is always good in the early season. Maybe in that Paris-Nice he lost to Pogi he wasn't that good... but still second only to Pogi.

But why could Ayuso have challenged him? I know it's usual for a young rider or a rider in a new team to become a shiny object for cycling fans, but let's stick to the facts. When has Ayuso ever been able to challenge Vingegaard? He probably would have been on the podium, but Ayuso isn't...

It's not really about the competition, he would have won regardless (except of course if Pogacar were there). It's more about the way he's riding, which looks very encouraging.

When has Ayuso ever been able to follow Vingegaard? Where did he gain this mythical status that apparently he's now Vingegaard's equal... in the Volta Algarve?

It's not like Ayuso would have been able to follow Vingegaard here. He probably would have been in that group as well. And then suddenly it's a big name group...

Vingegaard is experiencing the same advantage Pogi always has when he attacks so early, which is that the group behind him doesn't cooperate so the difference in level appears bigger than it actually is.

Or vice versa? I don't think at this point either of them is better than Vingegaard.

Yeah it's ridiculous. Visma are still living in 2020. I think everyone could see he wasn't going to win this stage. He could barely follow Jorgenson on the climb. I think it would also be good for Van Aert if they quit putting all their eggs in the Wout basket. Now he's just becoming a...
