Teams & Riders The "MVP" Mathieu Van der Poel Road Discussion Thread

That's not the point though, is it? His palmares is way better than Wout's, there is no denying in that. If MvdP would retire right now he'd still be one of the all time greats. But, while Van Aert is competing in bunch sprints, classics, TT's and even mountain stages, Van der Poel's only...

This must be the first time someone claiming Remco won because of his superior bike handling and fast acceleration...

The shirt he's wearing here looks like it was measured when he was still Fatco though.

If he wins the worlds this year, I assume he'll go for the triple next year and race Giro, TdF and Vuelta. Because why not...

Are we psychologically ready for Merckx to ever not be the greatest?

I guess you haven't really looked up how Merckx has performed, have you?

Dumoulin was also the one that thought riding la Planche des Belles Filles on a TT bike was a good idea ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tour de France Tour de France 2024: Stage 19: Embrun - Isola 2000, 19/07 144.6k

Sure it's a semantic discussion. But for the Bonette, I think it's quite clear where the pass ends, and the extra loop starts. Anyway, as said, not really important, and your stage introduction was top notch, as always! ;-)

Are we psychologically ready for Merckx to ever not be the greatest?

Is it possible that Pogacar gets the same, or even overtakes the palmares of Merckx? Definitally. Would that make him the goat? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm sure he can have a longer career than Merckx for example, with modern ways of working. So no, even if he beats him at everything, Eddy Merckx is the best...

Tour de France Tour de France 2024: Stage 19: Embrun - Isola 2000, 19/07 144.6k

Not that it matters much, but ... this is wrong as well. The pass (or "col") of the Bonette is at 2,715 meters. Which is lower than the Col de l'Iseran (2,770 meters). The loop to the top (or "Cime") is at 2,802 meters, making it higher than the Iseran, but ... it's not the pass anymore. It is...

How so? Giro 2021: well yeah, we know what happend there and how stupid it was to ride that GT. Vuelta 2022: he won stage 18 for example, that's not exactly fading? Giro 2023: he abandoned after winning the TT on stage 9 with covid. Vuelta 2023: he cracked on the first few km's going up on stage...

A lot of room when it comes to descending :-| I'm happy he didn't take any risk, but this looked really wonky in the corners.

Maybe. But this is new to him and he was never gonna do that on the first real mountain stage. His job right now was to follow as good as possible.

Teams & Riders Jonas Vingegaard thread: Love in Iberia

I think it's hard to compare housing prices between countries tbh. Different rules, different situation, different mentality, etc.. results in big price difference. I don't know how it works in Denmark, but in Sweden you're only obliged to pay back 50% of your mortgage for example (you keep...
