La Flèche Wallonne 2025, 23rd April

Most boring classic this year. Pogacar was absolutely strong, but as others pointed out, this was obviously also a weak field of puncheurs, especially after Skjelmose abandoned. I agree even MvdP could have gone on the podium today. A pity Roglic and Vingegaard didn't participate, as they would...

Paris-Roubaix 2025, one day monument, April 13 (men)

Had Pogacar not been racing and had Alpecin had a stronger team he would have won LBL last year.

MvdP can definitely win LBL, but GdL is not possible, I agree.

It is 7 actually. Flanders-PR-LBL-Lombardia-MSR-Flanders-PR.... Pogacar is massive favorite for LBL. There is a chance he will be too tired after Tour-Vuelta-WC to do/win Lombardia

Teams & Riders The "MVP" Mathieu Van der Poel Road Discussion Thread

MvdP and Pogacar are definitely the greatest one-day racers in the peleton. Which is better is hard to say. Both have 8 monument wins and 1 WC. Both have won three different monuments (MSR-Flanders-PR and Flanders-LBL-Lombardia respectively). Pogacar is also competive in MSR and PR, but would...

Teams & Riders Chris Froome Discussion Thread.

I think some people here are just disappointed about him not being a competitive rider anymore, so they repeat the same jokes over and over again, as a coping mechanism. Personally I don't care, during his 8 years on the top, he wrote himself into the history books as maybe one of the 5 greatest...

Top single seasons of all time

It is close, and it all depends on how one weighs the different wins. The hour record is also important, even though it lies outside of road racing. Winning three monuments in a single season has only happened 4 times, and only by Eddy Merckx, so maybe Tour+Giro+WC+2 monuments isn't so different...

Top single seasons of all time

I don't think that is entirely true, though it will always be a challenge to compare different eras. Rund um den Henninger Turm was big, but not a monument, and Merckx only came second in 1972. I don't think TTT can be considered when comparing individual results. PCS gives more points for small...

Four one day wins in a row, will he take his fifth today? He is becoming a serious contender for the World Championships.

How likely is Tadej Pogačar to win both the Giro and the Tour this season?

I voted 60-70 %, but after doing some calculations, it is probably a bit lower. First we have to estimate the chance of him not being affected by crashes or illnesses to the extend that will hinder him from performing at his peak or close. I looked at last years Tour, where 25 dnf'd out of 176...

Teams & Riders Chris Froome Discussion Thread.

You mean like the train that could win every grand tour in a season, and get three riders on the podium in one of them? It's really not super relevant, you still have to be the best rider (unless you are Sepp Kuss or Bradley Wiggins). If Valverde, Quintana, Nibali or Contador were stronger than...

Teams & Riders Chris Froome Discussion Thread.

Peak Froome was already wiping the floor with generational wonders such as Valverde, Quintana, Nibali and Contador, the latter two were themselves among the top 10 GC riders of all time. No reason to believe he wouldn’t have been competive against Vingegaard and Pogacar.

Teams & Riders Julian Alaphilippe Discussion Thread

At 100 % he was beating peak Roglic and Valverde by several bike lengths. In 2022 he was in much worse shape than now, but still came 4th.

Really!? What are QS thinking? Even an Alaphilippe at 90 % has a chance of winning Fleche.
