1 week in Tremezzo Italy, Lake Como cycling

Hi All,
I will be spending 1 week in Tremezzo Italy in the Lake Como area. I will be taking my bike with me.
So basically, my days are planned cycling during the morning/afternoon and then relaxing in the Lake Como area and touring around Milan.

So far I only have the Madonna del Ghisallo climb that the Tour of Lombardy uses which really is of interest. Do I need a compact ? I was thinking a 39x 25 may be enough ?

I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience riding in this area ?

What routes should I take ?

Is the Gavia too far away ?

Any other cycling related hot spots around there ?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there!
We spent our honeymoon in this area and rode some wonderful routes. We went up and over the Madonna (be SURE to check out the church!), and, then climbed up the Sormano to Zelbio, and back around to Bellagio. (we stopped for lunch so it looks like it took a while).

here's a link to the GPS file

It's a beautiful ride. You even pass by the Enervit corporate office (it's tucked away on the descent from Zelbio to the lake). There's a great place to eat on the route too called Ristorante Sole. Definitely get some pizzochierri there!

The Gavia is quite a haul from there. I climbed in a 39x25 and it was fine.

Cheers.

It's one of the nicest area in Italy.
If you've a car and time (not short drive) you could go to Bergamo to pick up some tubulars.

Been going to Como with a bike for almost 10 years. It is the place I make a point of visiting every October. The chapel of the Madonna is almost like a pilgrimage. Last year it was almost zero visibility due to fog but I still felt compelled to make the climb once before coming home!

South from Tremezzo you have Argegno which is where the climb to San Fedele d'Intelvi starts. Once over the top you drop down to Claino, through Porlezza and Menaggio and back to Tremezzo. Or you could drop down the Piano del Noci and then head into Lugano, stopping off at Assos's showroom on the way.

If you feel like a less brutal day in terms of climbing, the lake circumnavigation is almost exactly 160km (100 miles)
