If I were you I'd take that 2k and put it towards something newer. What are your plans for your eventual bike purchase, just ride, or race? If not racing that Madone geometry probably won't be to your liking.

Tooled around on a new Cannondale Synapse Carbon 5 with 105 hung on it last week, about the same price, for me it's a nicer ride than Trek for sure.

6 year old Carbon worn out probably gone soft by now. Forget it.
There is absolutely no grounds for that statement. Carbon bikes don't soften.
BUT Carbon bikes have been getting so much better that a 6 year old frame when compared to a new frame seem so vastly different including perceptions of stiffness.

Been looking for a Trek Madone to buy, but on a budget...anyone have experience with this year/model? Seems decent for around $2k?

Very much a focused race frame from a few years back. I had an older 5200 and now have a 5.9 frame. No comparison between the two. New one is way more comfortable.

Seems you could get a 4 series madone for about the same money and it'd be a much nicer ride if you're interested in a trek.

Was an ok bike back in the day. I had one for a while. Would be a good deal for well under 1k. For the current price, I would not consider it.

Honestly, price is too much. I bought a 2005 5.9 SL on sale for $3000 back in 2006. (same frame, but with Dura-Ace); and it was from my LBS. Love the bike, was worth more than I paid.

But $2100 for a 6-year-old bike with *6600* Ultegra? I'd look elsewhere, unless you get them to throw in some $200+ pedals and a new Giro helmet. You can find better deals. I think that bike should be priced in the $1600 range *at most* - not because it isn't necessarily "worth" $2100 - it should be cheaper based on what else is out there right now that isn't 6 years old.

In short, look elsewhere. You don't want a 10-year-old bike in 4 years.

Be wary of dodgy deals of flea bay etc.

Lots of insurance jobs where a crashed frame has a new fork and everything else is about to fail.

Get original purchase receipt so if anything fails and your alive to get a warranty, that you can cos you got the OPR.
