2010 Spec. Allez Sport (upgrade)

I figured this would be the best place for some good info... I'm in the middle of Wyoming w/out a bike shop for help.

I bought a Spec. Allez Sport Triple this year. I made the typical mistake of not spending quite enough, once I got the feel for everything. I love the bike, raced it a bunch even, but now I'm positive I want to upgrade to Shimano105 components. After riding a friends Cann. I'm convinced.

Wondering if I would have to upgrade from top to bottom?
Prices +/-?
Suggestions otherwise.

Thanks

This has been covered in another thread, however I bought a Specialized Allez for the frame only, stripped the bike down and changed all of the components. The bike went from 10.9 kgs to 8.1 kgs and rides great. You will save significant weight by changing the wheels, plus upgrading to 105 is a good route to take. As for prices look at groupset prices online, this time of year especially in the UK there are some good deals on `out of date 2010' groupsets.

Assuming it's a 10 speed setup then you could upgrade each individual piece at a time, but you may find a better deal on a full groupset out there. Depending on how much wear you have put on chain, chainrings and cluster you may need to replace all these at once to keep shifting well. If the bike has been dirty or done lots of miles, replace all the shifter cables as well or you won't maximise the brand-new shifting experience.

Another thing to consider is a nice wheelset. You can get some build up fairly economically, or something like the Shimano RS80s are great value and really nice as well. You will probably drop significant weight and the difference in ride quality will be noticeable.

I second the suggestion of looking at the UK websites if cost is a factor and you can fit the components yourself. If not, make friends with your LBS.

Happy upgrades.
