2011 Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali -2.1: March 22nd-26th

A personal favourite of mine. ( and obviously Jonathan Vaughters;))
Something for everyone here, including a few of those typical Italian climbs.

All the stage details including floor plans (profiles) and stopwatch (time trials)
to be found here in pdf form:
http://www.gsemilia.it/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=72&Itemid=65

Very sketchy startlist with 2 days to go, but some very interesting teams. (especially for our resident Columbian fans)
http://www.cyclingstartlists.com/

TV coverage from Rai Sport 2 (who else?) at 19-00CET each evening, (1 hour)
repeated around 22-30CET.

Incidentally, for Italian and satellite viewers, Rai Sport 2 has live coverage of Dwars door Vlaanderen on Wednesday. Oh happy days!

Anyway, have at it.

It looks like Colombia es Pasion sent the A-Team to Cataluña. A lot of young athletes in this team which is good for the future of our sport.:)

I will predict that Rujano will not finish in the top 30 of any stage in this race.

this is a great race. Also includes the amazing moment last year where José Serpa killed a break where he was the best placed GC rider simply to annoy Ricardo Riccò.

Yes, it was a case of no way, José, all through this race. Serpa the neutralizer.
At one point, I thought they would come to blows.

Steephill has all of CN's reports from last year's race, nicely packaged.

Maybe Duarte rides this race, as he's not on the Catalunya startlist.

As someone pointed out at the time, wasn't that more to protect his teammate's GC position rather than just to needle Ricco?

Serpa was the best placed Androni rider. If they'd worked together he may even have threatened Santaromita (though unlikely). I suppose Bertagnolli was 4th overall, but Serpa had been similarly unhelpful in a Riccò-led attack earlier in the race.
