2012 Giro d'Italia game is here! As promised, we have an addition to our current 2012 CQ Manager game. The game is open to anyone and if you have missed the 2012 CQ Manager deadline, now is your time to show us what you got.

2012 Giro d'Italia game rules:

The goal is to score as many points from the Giro as possible. All players will start with zero points and whoever has the most points from the Giro at the end of the game is the winner.

1. Go to http://game.cqmanager.net/
2. Select 9 riders (must be riding the 2012 Giro d'Italia!)
3. Buying power is 3000 CQ points. Riders value/cost is based on current CQ ranking value and the final CQ value will be updated on Monday April 30th 2012. (Now updated!)
4. Deadline is Saturday May 5th 2012 9:00 CET. You can edit your team freely until the deadline.
5. Points are awarded for each stage and general classification based on this chart: http://cqmanager.net/points/
6. Weekly updates will be available on CQmanager.net every Monday and final update should be up on May 30th 2012
7. Winner will get: Bragging rights and a prize which is still TBD

Website login: If you are a current 2012 CQ Manager game player and need password, please contact CQmanager through private message on CN forums!

Disclaimer: this is a beta version of a Grand Tour game based on the current CQ Manager game and we are planning to bring the same game for TDF and Vuelta. The game website is still work in progress and and your understanding and feedback is appreciated!

This is very cool! I'm looking forward to it and have already thought quite a bit of my team (there's one guy who's at least a 99% safe choice ;))
I was gonna open this thread tomorrow, but it's fine that you, CQmanager, did it today instead!

Sorry about that, I was hoping you would do it but I was getting too many repeated questions. You can edit the post on the website as I'm not very good at writing and explaining the game :)

Does anyone know of any site listing provisional squads, rather than flipping between dozens of news items.

Edit: answer my own question, and in hope of it helping others: http://uk.yahoo.eurosport.com/cycling/giro-d-italia/entrylist.shtml Don't know how assiduously updated it will be

I would absolutely recommend Cyclingfever over any other source for correct startlist. At least they have already updated with Fränk Schleck and Volodmyr Gustov, and they have a good track record for most races.

+10.

Haven't picked yet, but it has to be said there are some ridiculous bargains there - I think I'm going to struggle to spend 3k.

I just want to confirm that rider values are those in the "current CQ ranking," i.e. the rolling one-year total, not the "rider ranking 2012," which counts only points from this calendar year.

Ah, silly me. Not so many bargains after all =(

Correct, not the 2011 value but the current CQ values. The numbers are now updated and the team selection page has correct values for all riders.

Bargains? You must be joking.
I was 8 points over with a bunch of glorified domestiques!
Even Rabobank riders were mostly out of my price range.

............I see a lot of mind changing and editing, during the week.......

Yeah I got the wrong end of the stick. I was looking at 2012 points and thought I was getting Gadret and Basso for 10 odd points each.

An extremely stupid mistake to make, I'll admit.

This is actually really tough. Selecting just 9 guys is harder than I thought. GC guys will end up with the most points but finding the right balance of gc/others is difficult.

Yeah that's the problem, I can think of 9 riders for 3000 points that'll go well, but I don't have a clue what kind of a balanc you need.

Getting a decent team together is actually doable considering that the field isn't that strong.

And do you actually need a balance? You might want something composed like a real team, but it won't necessarily make any difference. of course you don't want your guys denying each other points, but why buy a poor value sprinter, say, over yet another cheap GC rider?

Can we select less than nine riders?

No, everybody should start with 9 riders ... so we can keep it real.

Am i right, that it is about how many points the riders EARN during the giro and NOT about IMPROVING their overall cq-score during the giro?

Correct, only points earned from the Giro will count for this game.

Guys, Hugo Koblet now also has the power to assign passwords and edit your accounts so you can also contact him if you need help.

Currently I'm working on functionality that will allow us to update the Giro scores every day so we dont have to wait for the weekly updates .... yuuuuup ... daily updates ... how cool is that?

The cheapest 6 expected starters (cycling fever list) are :
BALLONI Alfredo FAR 23
VANENDERT Dennis LTB 23
LEEZER Tom RAB 20
BULGAC Brian LTB 17
MOUREY Francis FDJ 15
LANCASTER Brett GEC 15

So you could have 3 guys with a total of 2887.

But could one select several 0 pointers "hoping" that they might be drafted in at the last moment?

I think that we should keep only riders that are starting the giro, and not other riders with a lower price... but, just wait for a confirmation from CQ

In principle I agree, and my final comment was meant to be tongue in cheek, but practically, I'm unclear as to how we can enforce the rule that every team must have 9 riders when real life teams are subject to change up to the 11th hour.

Just to be clear - once the race starts you can't change your team (or to be more precise after 9AM on Saturday morning).

This is the first time I've entered a cycling fantasy game so am looking forward to the added interest! :)

So when I picked my team it was under 3000... now its over... do I have to change it or if I don't try and edit it will it stay the same?
