2012 Winners and Losers

So with the last big world tour race over (who really cares about Beijing) I think it’s time for a thread on who the big winners and losers have been in the 2012 season? I’ve listed a few off the top of my head.

Winners
1. Wiggins- Wiggins had a dream season, dominating the time trials, winning Paris-Nice, Romandie, the Dauphine, the Tour de France, and Olympic gold.

2. Boonen- after 2010 and 2011 Boonen needed a win, and boy did he get those wins. Flanders, Roubaix, E3, Gent-Wevelgem are just a few of the races he won.

3. Sagan- Sagan once again dominated all year, 5 stage in California plus the points jersey, 4 in the Tour de Suisse plus point jersey, 3 stages in the tour plus the green jersey to name a few of his wins. He also showed promise in the classics, and showed he could contend for the win.

Losers
1. Sanchez- Sammy Sanchez started off good winning the tour of the Basque, but crashes derailed his season and he was unable to contend in the tour or defend his Olympic gold.

2. Schlecks- The upcoming season looked bright at the beginning of the year for the Schlecks. New team built around their goal of winning the tour and no Contador to deal with. But somewhere along the way it all went wrong, the younger brother could never find his form and the older was forced to leave the tour and end his season after testing positive.

3. Cancellara- Cancellara looked good at the start of the season after winning strade-bianche in impressive fashion. But a crash in Flanders made it impossible to contend in the cobbled classics. He managed to come back strong at the start of the Tour de France but was unable to contend for Olympic gold and ended his season soon after the olympics, meaning he would not contend in worlds.

Who else have the winners and losers been this season? What about Contador? Gilbert? Rodriguez? Froome?

Winning the Tour of the Basque Country is one of the bigger achievements of his career so let's just not label Sammy Sanchez a loser.
not just mentioned either, 1st choice in that category..

Contador has been the biggest loser. He has lost 2 gts and 1 tour of murcia, as well as failed to prevent people from forever calling him a "convicted doper" as so many others have done.

The rest are injry based. Cancellara is biggest loser easily. Not only has he lost his season, boonen can now say to be clearly best cobbled rider, wiggins won the only tt 90% of the world cares about so he loses that reputation, and Gilbert won worlds so he can now say he is a better overall classics rider.

His dream was to win 2 olympic golds and make history, and now he can never achieve that. Other riders get their chance every year. Cancellara has lost his dream for ever.

And i would say samu is a loser. he could have at least gone for some stages in the tour and enjoy the experience of being the defending champion at the olympics. PV dont make up for that.

The tour of the Basque was the only really good part of his season the rest of it was ruined by crashes and he wasn't able to even be a contender in the races he wanted to do well in. Plus this has been the first time in 8 years where he has not been able to get in the top 10 in a GT.

Rodriguez is a winner. He won a monument.

Contador- loser coz he lost the battle against the ban.

Gilbert- hard to tell.

Froome- Mixed bag.

I would add Basso to the list of losers and Moser to the list of winners.

Very impressive debut season for Moser.

I would personally put Jrod in both categories. Great season but those 2 GT podiums could so easily have been wins, a massive missed opportunity for him.

A mare of a season for Frandy and a solid one for Uran outside that.
