2013 Critérium du Dauphiné Stage 1 Champéry (SUI) - Champéry (SUI), 121 km.

PROFIL.jpg

Km 12.5 - Côte de Morgins - 9.2 km de montée à 6 % - Catégorie 1
Km 76.0 - Col du Corbier - 7.6 km de montée à 7.5 % - Catégorie 1
Km 101.5 - Pas de Morgins - 4.5 km de montée à 6.7 % - Catégorie 2
Km 120.0 - Côte de Champéry - 6.9 km de montée à 3.3 % - Catégorie 3

Last 5 km:

That last climb is only 3.3 % average but there are some 'flat' parts in it. The second last km looks rather steep, my guess is 6 %.

I put my money on Valverde (if he has a decent shape)

Hushovd might surprise here, it's a good finish for him. Depends on how hard it's raced though, but he's very slim at the moment, so he should be climbing well. A victory here might just save his TDF spot.

But imo the favourites are Meersman, Gerrans and Valverde.

The short length of the stage. The fact that it is the first stage and, of course, the ever-present question of form make this almost impossible to predict I would say.

But a nice opening in my opinion. Interested to see what the GC guys do with it.

Anyone know the bonification rules?

Gallopin or Moreno on the podium. Capecchi will launch a suicide attack in the last downhill.

Thanks.

I know this is the Tour warm-up, but they don't have to make it that similar surely!!!

Bonifications really liven up a one-week tour IMHO.

I can see a team sending someone out on Pas de Morgins. The crazy descent action is for Monday though :D

Will be interesting to see how big a bunch might contest a sprint finish here? Will the likes of Bouhanni & Viviani, both of whom can get over bumps in the road, be there fighting for the stage win I wonder?

Finding it hard to call this one, I would say Valverde. But not sure he wants to show his hand too early. Hushovd has looked slightly better of late, but I'm not to confident in him after the past couple years he's had.

I'll say Meersman to take it, with Gerrans and Moreno to be in the mix as well.

Aside from the parcours, the challenging thing about this race (for those of us on the west coast of NA) is that the stages (at avr. race speeds) are due to be OVER before 6am Pacific time! Yikes, so I'll have to get up at 4:45 just to catch the last hour of the race. I guess the short stages must = early finishes.

Lot's of contenders, impossible to predict as far as I'm concerned

EBH, Thomas, Vanendert, Gavazzi, Hushovd, Slagter, Matthews, Purito, Moreno, Meersman, Valverde, Janse van Rensburg......

So many puncheurs or sprinters who can handle a difficult finish.

I'm gonna go with Matthews and Slagter because I like them
