Technical overview:
And after years repeating that RCS wanted to have always a GC stage as the final one, we get... a pan flat stage, with a little climb in the middle.
Disappointing.
The circuit is 6.7 kms long and the last time it was used Cipollini won, so it's not very difficult.

What to expect:
A bunch sprint... if there ARE still sprinters that bothered to finish the race.

Credit to Eshnar for the stage preview.
Only one competition left to be decided. Cav should be able to take it assuming all goes according to plan.

1 NIBALI Vincenzo ITA AST 128
2 CAVENDISH Mark GBR OPQ 117
3 EVANS Cadel AUS BMC 111

6 SANTAMBROGIO Mauro ITA VIN 89
7 VISCONTI Giovanni ITA MOV 86
8 VIVIANI Elia ITA CAN 72

I predict something like this, just with Gatto instead of Guardini (purely for CQ reasons). :) And Cav to still get his red jersey.

The only interesting things on this stage

1. a Will Cav participate in the TV's
b (if yes) Who will annoy him by trying to stop him from taking points

2. By how much will Cav win?

3. How much will the weather suck?

Trentin has a big job to do.

Make sure Cav starts the sprint way away from Roberto Ferrari

Ferrari hasn't been sighted for 3 weeks, it would be incredible bad luck for Cav to find him tomorrow.

Who was that vini rider who dared to contest the intermediate today, and got told off and almost squeezed into the barriers? I hope he wins it.

I think it was Andriato he is the leader in the TV sprint classificiation or something like that.

I have a feeling Cav will crash and lose out on the red jersey. Again.

That would be nice, seeing someone else's face for a change.. however, given the quality of the remaining sprinters, Cav could crash, stop for a pizza and beer, then still get up enough to win...:(

I'm not the biggest fan of the Milano TT, but it's infinitely better than this.

Oh my, a flat stage on the last day of a three week tour! How dare they? :p

Libertine, I really enjoy nearly all of your thoughtful and well-written posts here - they really stand out among the usual crap here. But every time when it comes to races which might be won by a sprinter your deep antipathy is getting a bit ridicilous. What's so wrong with having a spectacular sprint finish to end this race? Show some mercy with those poor sprinter guys...

Why? Those guys already get more chances to win a race than anybody else. The Giro doesn't have the tradition of a pointless worthless flat stage at the end, so it's a disappointment when they have it. I don't criticise the Paris or Madrid parades as much, because those are part of the tradition of the race, but I've got used to the Giro having the GC remain relevant to the last.

I hate parade stages, especially in non-3 week Tours. I really loathe it when a race like the Tour Down Under thinks they need to reward people for making it to the end of a six day race by giving them a half-day-off at the end with a crappy crit.

And really, spectacular? Is it going to be spectacular? It's just stats-padding for Cavendish, because pretty much every other sprinter of note has gone home. We lose the big mountains stages to the weather, but we get to keep the utterly worthless stages? Not a fair trade.

A sprinter should have to work for their victory, not have it just handed to them on a plate. For the most part this Giro has done that well. However, the two examples of really pathetic stages they have had have been the very first and very last stages, which starts things on the wrong note, and leaves a sour taste in the mouth to finish.

What I can't understand is why they go to the bother of making it 197kms?

Might as well halve the distance. Two and a half hours is more than long enough for a procession.

Nibali won the pink yesterday, Uran a deserved 2nd and Betancur got the deserved white jersey.

Today Cav gets back the red, so all the jerseys will have their rightful place in the race. King of Mountains is always a bit of an odd one since its never really won by the best climber ;)

I really dunno why the last stage has to be almost 200k? 100K is enough already, gonna be a bunch sprint anyways.

As much as I like Cav, it would be amazing to see Ferrari closes him in and take the victory. Just to see the reaction of Cav
