If it was a 210 km stage i would say Samuel Sanchez to win after todays showing, but like this i dont know, he is not good at shorter stages.

Lets say Kišerlovski from a big break.

expect dog fight between uran vs evans vs scarponi. Majka vs Bentacur. I'm sure majka would like to overhaul niemiec to get him to "top 5". majka seemed to careless about white jersey (from his interview), he probably chased gc position.

are they really sure this stage is possible? I mean even for these mountains the forecasts are very poor. :(

Castrin is simply the toughest climb they can stick in that section of stage (and is a genuinely really tough climb) in order to pay at least SOME homage to the difficulty of the original plan. If the weather doesn't allow them to use Castrin they'll either use Palade or cut it entirely (which would lengthen the stage). However, I don't see any way they can do this without crossing Tonale, as that's the only alternative pass there to Stelvio that allows them to connect the start and finish in a reasonable distance.

Of course, what they've done is try to put together the best possible contingency plan, fitting the thoughts that some commenters had on the parcours all the way back in January.

Stetina, Garzelli, Pirazzi, De Greef, Sella, Kruiswijk and others in the early break. then we'll see what Astana and Radioshack will do
Lotto is taking this Giro seriously. They will send someone up the road but they'll preserve De Greef for a big attack later on. After all, he is their leader and he has a chance to move into the top 20!

Anyway, I'll be curious what Visconti will do. Will he try to take the blue jersey or he won't bother as he already accomplished more than he could've imagined and Pirazzi won't be easy to defeat.

No Gavia and Stelvio is a bummer isn't it:mad:, i still think Nibali would have been fine its just annoying that the weather will not allow us to see if he really would crack badly. When this Giro finishes i said days ago it will go down as worst GT of 2013, which is sad. It cant be helped of course but it's still sad for us their will not even be 1 Multi hard Mountain stage in the whole race which says it all for me.

So it has been confirmed that there will be no Gavia and no Stelvio?

If so, how is the new profile? Just flat until Val Martello?
