2013 Tour de France, stage 18: Gap - Alpe-d'Huez, 172.5km

acioycUF.jpg

Let the action begin. Weather over Alpe d'Huez:

All the Mountain Passes and hills:
Km 13.0 - Col de Manse 6.6 kilometre-long climb at 6.2% - category 2
Km 45.0 - Rampe du Motty 2.4 kilometre-long climb at 8% - category 3
Km 95.0 - Col d'Ornon (1 371 m)5.1 kilometre-long climb at 6.7% - category 2
Km 122.5 - Alpe d'Huez 12,3 kilometre-long climb at 8.4% - category H
Km 131.5 - Col de Sarenne 3 kilometre-long climb at 7.8% - category 2
Km 172.5 - Alpe d'Huez 13,8 kilometre-long climb at 8.1% - category H

To help understand the climbing and descending routes:
1st: La Bourg D'Oisans - Alpe D'Huez - Col de Sarenne
2nd: Col de Sarenne descent
Final Climb: La Bourg D'Oisans - Alpe D'Huez (different, higher location than first ascent)

Riders come from the south (Gap) and reach the Alpe D'Huez Valley just after the descent from Col D'Ornon. They then initiate the first climb from La Bourg D'Oisans (base) to Alpe D'huez. After reaching the resort, they turn right to Col de Sarenne, before descending to Mizoen, back to La Bourg D'Oisans. They now initiate the last climb, this time ending a little higher onto the finish line, located in the very top.

The climb up Alpe d'Huez is 13.8 km with an average gradient of 8.1% (1130 m) with 21 switchbacks marked with signs honoring each of the Tour de France/Alpe d'Huez stage winners. Since the Tour has now used Alpe d'Huez more than 21 times, the lower signs have been doubled up as you'll notice on the first bend with a double panel honoring both Fausto Coppi and Lance Armstrong

They need to observe rule 5.
Edit: or maybe not, is it on or not?

I'm going to stick with my original prediction, Schleck to take an epic solo stage win from the breakaway. Officially marking his comeback.

Edit 2: And forgot to mention, Froome will go Full-*** mutant skyborg and do it in 37 minutes flat. But of course it won't be enough to make up the gap to Schleck. :D

i really hope from all my heart that the first ascent will be cancelled. it was the most *** idea ever ever

anyway purito, quintana and alberto will put more than a minute on froomey.

let's see if someone will put himself in the most prestigious top 100

I bet theres going to be some serious arm twisting this evening to get the stage to be cut short or not.

In the Red corner: Sky, OPQS

Blue corner: Saxo, Movistar.

I don't think we can say either way till tommorow

That's a clean sweep for Pantani in first second and third.

For that to happen, someone in the Top5 has to attack and go full throttle from the beginning of the climb. I don't think Froome will set a high pace himeslf, and Froome is the only one who could do it. And even he would need to go all out right from the beginning of the climb. Only then could get to 5-10.

If the weather is good, I think Landis' 38.36 is a nice goal. Armstrong's 2001 'look' seems out of reach I think.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Froome to win this one.

He will put a minimum of 60 seconds on Conta.

I also pretty much know exactly what he'll say after he wins a well.

Wow. I should hit up the Casino.
