Brief thought...why would any tour organizer design a 2.65km ITT (that they are calling stage 1, not a prologue), followed by a rest day, and then stage four of just a "hillclimb" (up Mount Fuji). Ms. Libertine Seguros would go bat-crazy over this sort of itinerary, and with good reason!

What's more surprising is that this is a cycling culture that can draw 66,000 people to a crit of domestic teams based in the world's third largest economy yet it doesn't have a WT event
