2015 Giro d'Italia, Stage 13: Montecchio Maggiore - Jesolo

The official best Giro Stage ever thread.

Not entirely though, but people can't open up threads prematurely, so we might as well discuss this.
As Renaat Schotte said, if this isn't a sprint, I'll eat 2 shoes

Perfect stage to take a nap

Stage 13: Montecchio Maggiore – Jesolo 147 kms

Start time: 14:00, May 22nd

Analysis:
Flattest stage ever.

Expectations:
Lots of helicopter shots of the Venice lagoon and a big sprint in the end. As always, we can also pass the time praying for some wind.

How the hell did RCS even manage to find roads this flat! I do note they've found 4 roundabouts for the final 2km mind.

Weather forecast is wet but virtually no wind. Bet the peleton is syced for this.

In many ways this is a perfect stage just before the critical ITT.
Short and uncomplicated.

Lotto will make sure the break doesn't take it this time.

Greipel FTW.
With those last kilometers in wet conditions... I think it'll be tricky. Crashes and nervousness to be expected.
Lotto should put someone in the break, then they don't have to work and some other sprinter teams that failed to do anything last Tuesday won't be able to hide anymore.

yep, anything can happen in road racing. Of course when the organizer put the stages together they were probably looking for a soft and uncomplicated day tomorrow.

Anyway the variation looks good so far.

A borefest is impossible in this Giro.

I predict 4 flat tires for Aru, a collision between König and Uran, 2 surprising attacks from Contador, hailstones as big as meat balls, 22 crashes and Cheng Ji as winner of the stage after a sick solo.

Bring it on! :)

Don't forget Aru chucking his helmet onto the side and not getting thrown out proving that the Giro is rigged

How come I programmed my dvr to record the entire Giro but when I checked the guide, it had omitted this stage on its own ??? Weird.... those people at directv earn it every day

Maybe a merciful 60 kph tailwind the entire way.... including the turns .... :D

This Giro has been entertaining so far, even in the flat stages. Something interesting is bound to happen. Meteorite strike, sudden parade of elephants, something like that.

Good. :)

Earthquake that splits the peloton at the front. AST was chasing the break when it happened.
T-10 after the stage:
Aru
Landa + 38
Cataldo + 1.13
Tiralongo + 13.25
Kangert + 13.35
Rosa + 18.52
LLSanchez + 33.13
Contador + 43.07
Kreuziger + 45.02
Uran + 45.26

So looked it up and it was actually really windy today (25mph+), but the forecast dampened significantly for tomorrow ... darn that would've made it a lot more fun. Guess we're left to wonder if Sky and EQS's chunkier boys could've done something against Astana in the cross-winds. I guess the peloton deserves a reprieve. Am I a sadist for hopping the weather turns again?
