2015 Rugby World Cup

NZ will be very, very hard to beat. Aus has the potential to cause them trouble as long as Cheika doesn't do anything stupid (like picking Cooper as starting 10). South Africa and England have some chance too and France always seem to over perform at World Cups.

Argentina and/or Ireland to roll a bigger team and Samoa to shock the big boys.

well

we've been to wc's before with what was considered the best team currently in the world at the time......and lost convincingly

all the media here are claiming this is the best team we've sent to a wc.....so???

france - great style and attitude to the game
always a threat
especially for the all blacks

i like cheika and the wallabies are loaded with talent across the park......the combinations seem to pose the biggest headache
a bit late late to start mix and matching now

samoa love the big stage and they absolutely love smashing into the boks.......wonder why that is
that will be a game worth watching

I'll be in Twickenham on Saturday, to watch with my own eyes Italy losing by 30 points

enjoy the game
should be a great spectacle

i'd be calling a much closer result than that
Italy had a chance to win but Parisse is out now so it will be very, very hard to do well and losing by 30 points is very much a possibility. Parisse is a world class player but it is more of a psychological loss. Here is 2 results this year: Italy 20-61 Wales (no Sergio)
Wales 23-19 Italy (Sergio)
I understand that one was a friendly and the other a match Wales needed to win but the point is there.

i haven't really followed any northern hemisphere rugby this year

how are wales & ireland shaping up?

i read that wales have been hit with numerous injuries lately to key players
Yep. Ireland aren't looking too good, they seemed to have peaked as a squad 6 months too early. They lost to England and Wales.

Wales have been destroyed thanks to Gatland. What little chance they had of progressing the group stage has gone. Gatland should not have picked Ryhs Webb and Halfpenny against Italy, especially as one had a hurt knee. Rhys Webb was crushed by the combined weight of Italy+Wales' pack. Halfpenny tore his ACL.

My picks are Aus, England, NZ and France. RSA haven't been looking to good, France seem to do amazingly in each WC.

The Six Nations suggest Ireland will do well but they used the kicking game way too much in the six nations and they were luck none of the other teams could handle it and dropped it, but kick it to New Zealand and you're 7 points down. Australia will just give it to Folau and score. You have to keep possession against these teams. Ireland QF.

Oh yeah, Samoa vs. RSA will be epic. Good, clean, professional, sportsmanlike rugby :D

Anyone feel like running a poll on how many players won't get cards?

France vs. RSA is usually nice wholesome rugby as well, love watching them play each other :p

if the score is kept close it could be an epic battle
the island boys go into every game thinking they're going to win.....no matter the opposition

if sa get a decent lead and start running away with it samoa will drop their heads

but make no mistake
they'll be looking to put some serious hurt into the springboks (legally).....well maybe
i'd be more willing to run a poll on how many springboks don't / won't / can't play their next game

The experience that the All Blacks have is second to none - guys like McCaw, Carter, Nonu, Conrad Smith have huge experience and are still leading from the front, especially McCaw and Nonu. The depth of NZ rugby is insane.

I've been following the ITM Cup and the level is astounding. It's so close to Super Rugby in terms of quality that there's guys who would be playing international rugby if they lived anywhere else! Other teams can beat NZ on their day, but it has to be their day. And don't forget, no one has knocked out NZ and then gone on to win. Why? They're shattered afterwards!

True. I think that the first 15-20 minutes are key to Samoa's entire campaign. Either way, they'll be ready to rip in. Those boys don't back down against anyone, they're out there to hurt people - and maybe even play some rugby

that first 20mins will be brutal
both teams looking to establish dominance

picking the fiji boys to be more than willing to knock a few poms back on the @rse this coming w/e also
Islanders (including Maoris) only know how to play one way - FULL ON. It's like the sport of Rugby was designed specifically with Pacific Islanders in mind :D

Rugby so far advanced of other sports with video replay.

The ref sees he made a mistake on the big screen, so he calls for video refs.

What is so hard about that. Why do almost all other sports insist that whatever the ref decides at first must be the right decision.

Rugby incorporates lots of natural stops where video playback wouldn't and doesn't interfere with action.
Only an imbecile would suggest similar playback technology at all other sports. In particular football would suffer tremendously if such tecchie stuff were to be introduced.

Yes, because there's nothing in, say, football, that constantly causes controversy AND causes a natural stop in play...
