Its not lack of skills. Its lack of concentration. He is simply getting old.
You can't blame all those crashes on a lack of concentration. That's just crazy.

33 isn't too old to lose concentration. Valverde is 36 doesn't seem to affect him. Didn't affect Horner at nearly 42 winning the Vuelta 2 years ago. I agree with Flo seems a confidence problem.
My example is Cancellara. He has crashed like crazy over the last few seasons.
But all the problems are know to the team as well. It was the team's responsibility to protect him till he crosses the finish line and comes to a standstill. The DS should have insisted on Contador following a "protection gang" of 3 people for these silly stages. No thinking, no use of brainpower just follow. They just killed their golden goose. Skills once learn't are not lost that easily. Moncuotie was the one without skills and confidence. He used to hang at the back or be in a breakaway. Contador reactions are not that of a person with low confidence. For loss of confidence check Pinot and Wiggins in downhill.

Odd application of the rules here: Sánchez and Clarke were ahead of the crash (so not affected by it), having been some distance ahead of the peloton at the 3km marker (so not in the same group as the winner at that stage), but still got "corrected" to the same time as the leader.

Making rules up as they go again...

Taaramäe abandons.

What was the deal with his DNF? He didn't seem to be injured by the crash, though his bike was and he was off the back at the time...could he have been too far behind his Team Car and unable to get a replacement?
he was hit by a car. not sure if katusha's or another
