Same nonsensical assumption like in 2020 Algarve (back then it was Schachmann) that had the upcoming rider started his jump sooner, he would have won. Likely he would have died earlier, there is a reason those guys like to wait as long as possible, because they can not sustain that effort for longer. Just like in Algarve, Evenepoel in control, looking back and accelerating when needed.

yeah, but it was obvious that neither Shachmann nor Johansen were really trying.

Definitely looked like Johannesen could have challenged had he been better positioned. I noticed he was poorly positioned for the whole last kilometer so could just be because his legs were hurting though.
