2024-26 Emerging Riders CQ game

Page 7 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
Year 1 Month 6 27 June to 7 July

This data is nearly a week out of date, but this is as good a chance as I will get in the near future. An outstanding performance in stage 1 of the TdF among the first years for the game, but FvdB II is far from the top in this 6 week block.

Larry Langosta had 2 of the good picks this session ans unique selections, but having missed out on the good popular ones undermines that. It's not so much who you have in a team, it's who you don't not have.

Jon E was already winning, and then top scorer in this period, so he moves farther clear of 2nd, who increases his gap over third, who extends his margin to 4th.

Better try to get these updated before I have Vuelta game duties.

Year 1 Month 7 and a bit into 8: 8th July to 11 August

The Tour and the Olympics pretty much passed these guys by, but while we were watching those, a couple of these picked up significant points

Standings

Most of the position changes are sliding above the few teams without Christen minor, but JPettersen advances on the podium. There were 22 places between the top two on this set of results, but only 68 points, and the peloton are not looking hurried in pulling them back.

A few riders relevant to this game are riding in La Vuelta, but only one of them has any level of expectation. We'll see whether the points there are significant or not in a few weeks time, or whether other races are more fruitful.

But now that we are talking about the Spanish race in a CQ context, you wouldn't expect me to not remind you: get your team in by Saturday afternoon

Standings
Rare pick Blackmore, who pretty much defines what I thought these games would be about in, boosts Leadbelly back to the top. SafeBet, who is emerging as the master of these games, moves up ominously, and monthly top scorer Nakazar enters the top ten halfway up it.

Standings
Jon E was already 2nd and as top this time around he has virtually closed the gap. The separation between 2nd and 3rd is 44 times as big as that between the top two. Most of those already in the top 56 were in this month's top ten, with Safe Bet losing a bit of ground. JPettersen gains the most significant move, and Anderis follows him into the top ten.

I seem to have managed to send my first message all year today. I take this opportunity to show my satisfaction with the progress of the team. I hope that in the 2025 season my fight with leadbelly will still be as exciting as in 2024.

When I reviewed my team I saw that my scores (5,383) do not match the official game scores (5,142). Is there an error in my notes?

Presumably because some of those points have been scored after 6th of October, which was the last update of this game so far.

Year 1, Month 10 October 7th to 20th (date of the download, but effectively to the end of the season)

Only 2 weeks, and not many races, so not much happening, but a few riders kept going right to the end of the season, mainly in the East

Standings
No wonder Jon E was anxious to make sure the scores were updated, he regains the head as we finish year 1.

so our leader is on 60.8% of perfection: the second worst non-COVID record of the game . However, 5383 would have been top of the Year 1 table in any other edition since the game started, except for the 2022-24 one, in which it would have been 10th. That was the only other time that the optimal Year 1 team was over 8k (but slightly below this year's).

It is only the second time that the Collective Ignorance team (which by its nature cannot have poor picks or those who haven't scored yet but of whom great things are expected in later years) has been beaten by a real team, despite Jeanniere, Baudin and Krijnsen having 3 of the top 6 scores.

Collective Wisdom has made a good start, but one of that selection, and nine selected riders in total, have still to score. At least 3 of them were still riding as Juniors this year, presumably picked in the belief that they can do enough in the next 24 months to make up for their absence in the first 12.

80 of the riders that we picked this time around will be eligible for the next cycle of the game, along with untold others. Have you started putting your team together yet? Rules will be the same, closing date for entries will probably be the start of the Tour Down Under, but but that slightly depends on Skidmark's schedule for the main game, as I will offer the shortlist from the entries there (be warned: the team based on the most popular picks from among them hasn't done very well) and allow some time for perusal of that before I close entries.

As to this game, I still await evidence that it will be anything other than a two-horse race, but previous game history shows that there is plenty of opportunity for change: we may have had 1/3 of the time, but probably only 20-25% of the points.

And I only discovered after posting that that I have never posted the location for the spreadsheet for this one: here it is and it should remain at this location indefinitely. Feel free to scrutinise the data, and share any discoveries.

Hello all. I am new to this forum. I am interested to join this emerging riders game, but it seems like this version has started in January 2024. Is there a version starting in 2025 that I could still join?
Thank you

That's my plan: keep an eye out for the thread to open sometime next month, but, as stated in the post above yours, the essence remains the same: 18 male riders, each of whom has fewer than 200 lifetime CQ points, entries will close sometime in January, probably the beginning of the TDU.
Keep an eye put in the subforum for other games starting up for the new season, with year-long games for men and women, and possibly an emerging women's game too.
