2024 Tour de France CQ Game

If some of the teams have started announcing their eight men for the Tour, it's time for you to think about doing the same.

Real DSes need to bear in mind the contractual promises, season goals and personal foibles of their squad: you only need to make sure that the eight are all in the race and have a total CQ score (over the 12 months to Sunday 23rd June) that is no more than 4000 points .

Team principals will have goals such as stage wins, GC placings, and visibility of the sponsors: your target is to get as many CQ points as possible during the race (points for GC placing, top ten in each stage, Green and Polka Dot classification and holding the yellow jersey)

Each team will have their social media team dream up some clever ruse to reveal their selection: you just need to send me a PM by the time Stage One sets off on 29th June.

For those who don't know CQ and it's points system, you may want to take a look here. The CQ points gained by each rider over the year is in the table on the top right of that homepage, or the red number in a white box by the petrol gauge visual on each rider's page, but those numbers are liable to fluctuate. There will be (hopefully) a download on Monday 24th that will confirm those prices. But there is also a spreadsheet on Google Docs that will be has now been updated with those prices (it currently has the prices to 16/06, but anyone who scores differently in this year's national championships than last year's will see those points change). It also has the start list as currently predicted by PCS (which I'll update as I get the chance), the scale of points available, a tool for making sure you have a team that fits in the budget, and the name format that I would be grateful if you use.

The 4000 point limit has been around this game for many years: Pogacar had not been predicted at that time, and he is already priced out.
Good luck.

EDIT on 24/06: Prices are now fixed, get those teams in.

Followed your tip: I have gone from the team pages on CQ rather than the download, which claim to have prices to 23rd, and I looked at a small sample of riders and the NC points are there.

So
I declare the game open!
So it turned out that there was "some obscure national championship missing" that made a difference between what I copied and pasted from the team pages on the CQ site and the download when it eventually arrived; Great Britain being the obscure country in question. So a slight change to the prices I earlier announced as final.

Insane that Pogacar alone outscores 11 of the 22 teams of 8x

And about 400p more than the entire Astana and Israel Premier Tech teams combined.
And when we had debate several years ago about whether a putative Tour Game should have a more generous budget than the Giro, which was the first of these GT games (and not run by me: I think I took over on the second or third iteration), the possibility that a rider would place himself beyond the scope of selection was unimagined.

But possibly brings an interesting twist to the game, if it turns out to be Giro-esque domination, with effectively smaller gaps in GC rewards at the (attainable) top, and removal of multiple leader's jersey bonuses.

About 50 hours to go to get your teams in, but the earlier you do so, the sooner I can check and give you a chance to make changes if necessary (over budget, too many riders, repeated riders, too few riders, riders not in the race: they have all happened before) rather than my applying a default

The default is:
I remove as few riders as possible to make the team salvageable;
If I need to remove more than one, it will be the two (or three, or...) closest together price-wise that free enough budget for a repair;
I will replace them with the most expensive allowable rider: if there is more than one rider at the relevant price, it will be the first alphabetically (UK spelling conventions)
If I need to replace more than one rider, the replacements will be selected as the riders closest together in price that come closest to the budget deficit.

If there is any eventuality that those do not cover, I will make up whatever seems to be most just at the time. Which is why it makes sense to
A) get it right the first time (the spreadsheet linked in the OP should help) and
B) Don't leave it until the last minute if you're not sure.

The most common problem is using the wrong prices: make sure you are looking at the 12-month rolling total, not the 2024 points. The aforementioned spreadsheet, or Search's table a few posts above this, should keep you right.

And one last appeal for names in the CQ format (as Search has them above and in the spreadsheet) and without other details such as price or team. It meakes it a much more efficient copy and paste job if you do that: thanks.

So, 31 teams now in (I believe you have all had an acknowledgement), and no problems, or even changed minds, so far.

63 different riders have been chosen: 3 are on more than half the teams, 28 on only one.
6 different 1000 pt+ riders have been picked, one of them enough times to be on the putative Collective Wisdom team, while 16 different makeweights at <100 points are included.

But not included, so far at least, are some of our regulars, and some who are in danger of slipping out of the 4 seasons game:
@18-Valve. (pithy) , @bminchow @Devil's Elbow, @Kazistuta , @laarsland , @Mellow Velo , @postmanhat , @Riverside @rote_laterne2 @Googolplex @Laurens147 @sam6 @JOSEDIN @Shakes @Harad

But that's not intended to exclude any new, less regular, or returning players: the more the merrier.
