2025 Giro CQ Game

This has suddenly got close.

The game will follow the same structure as for a number of years:

Team of eight (must all be starters in the Giro)
Budget of 3500 CQ points as of Sunday 4th May
Assistance in selecting There is a spreadsheet with riders shortlisted and the relevant prices here.
Team submission to me by PM before they start the race on Friday 9th (CQ name versions please)
Invalid picks if not corrected, will be replaced with most expensive rider who can replace them

Points won for stage points, standings in GC, sprint and KoM classifications
Minor ranking for stage points only
Updates each day (probably)

After all these years, I think I have managed to reduce the OP to the bare minimum, but if there is anything unexplained, please ask.

Is that strictly speaking necessary?
You're not really cheating - other than yourself - by picking a rider who's not riding.
He'll still take up part of your budget, and isn't going to score any points.
Or, are you not really differentiating between points scored at the Giro, and points scored elsewhere?
It is "cheating" because if there are no zero pointers on the startlist, you could pick 7 men with a total cost of exactly 3500 and one non-participant freebie. That will open some possibilities that the current rules do not allow.

Question for the future: Would it be possible to use cq-ranking from a bit prior to the event? I have a limited amount of time these days and others surely too, so using the ranking from 4 days prior the start of the event is a bit suboptimal in my eyes. I think it wouldnt change a lot to use the ranking from a week before so that those with limited time have more time to choose their team. I know that the Romandie is right before and probably you want to get those results in but in a 12-month-ranking I dont think it wont change so much.

Given we don’t have a startlist yet and many teams have not much more than 2/3 riders listed I think we need to leave it quite late anyway.

There have been times when I used an older pricelist when CQ has been very late with their weekly download (is Monday a public holiday where they are: it might be late again) and the start being on Friday is a bit of a nuisance. But Hayneplane makes a good observation about the relative timings of CQ pricesheets and confirmed startlists. Many riders in the giro probably won't be busting a gut in Romandie, so if you do need to pick early, you could make a fair stab at what their prices should be. Send a couple of contingency names if you wish and have to go early.

So, rather than wait for the CQ download, I have updated the prices on the selection spreadsheet from the team pages at CQ, which update overnight. That *should* be the final price, so the game is open. (Later edit: they have subsequently released the download, so I have put that into the spreadsheet, but I think without any changes from what I had this morning.)

6 teams have confirmed their line-ups so far: when we have a few more, I'll put the lists in this thread (unless search or Nicely beats me to it).

I'll update this as teams come in. These are the versions of riders names that CQ uses, and therefore the version that I can paste into the spreadsheet without additional work. For the same reason, please do not add anything other than the rider's name on each line (not his team, not his price). And if those of you that lack a Scandanavian keyboard could copy and paste if picking Kragh, Honore, Bystrom or Tjotta, that would be great.

Only EF to confirm their team now. Don't forget that this race starts on Friday rather than at the weekend, and that the first day is not just a late afternoon event as they sometimes are.

So teams should be with me by the race start time of 1:30 local time (I believe Albania is in the same time zone as most of Western Europe, contrary to what I would have guessed). You can probably all work out what that is in your current part of the world.

I just sent in my team. The game seems fun! I'm curious if our teams will actually differ a lot from each other
This was the 18th team in, and has been the entry that ensures that at least one team has no unique entries (not Q's team, but he has a rider that was previously a unique pick), so I would suggest that there is maybe more difference than usual. There are two popular entries, on more than half the teams, but aside from that little general agreement.

I expected more similarity. Interesting, can't wait to see everyone's choices tomorrow!
Wait no longer

38 teams (thanks to all)

Listed by price of rider: number on the right is how many times he is picked.

Those in red were not deliberately picked, but the results of the default replacements system: Hfgon had Hugh Carthy in the team, but hasn't been in touch since EF confirmed their team without him: The most expensive affordable replacement was Van Baarle, not necessarily an awful option (and deliberately picked 3 times) Josedin, I can only assume, was looking at the 2025 CQ points rather than the 12 month scores, and sent in a team consisting more than 7500. After I removed Roglic, Pedersen and Scaroni, there was enough budget left for Liepins, Schultz and Hollman.
