Stage 19

Queen of the Dolomites, Giau and others.

Purple points
They did it again, swapping Hindley and Caruso, but I am wise to their antics now.

Purple points

The stage top ten is the GC top ten, so it does not augur well for the teams that got no purple points today.

Ballerini

So if Milan wins, we will probably have Il Maestro-Nightowl-DJW as the top three: some podium chance for RhD or Armchair.

I am looking for Magnier and Groenewegen ( or Lund, or Malucelli: I don't care who) to get the big points, so that if my two both manage a low top ten it might hold the Milan teams off. RhD and Devil's Elbow thinking likewise, but it would take a remarkable result from either of their sprinters to improve their placements. Unless, of course, the stage does not follow the formula.

If Ballerini wins, there is a route for Mikks to even make the podium, but...

BsAs will remain ahead of Bicycle Boy so long as Paaschens does not finish ahead of Tarozzi and also at least 35th.

Pink points
The final 18 point bonus for Vingegaarde today, but not a stage that saw much GC change, none above 12th. Minor changes in the other scoring classifications.

Standings

A perfectly timed rise through the table by Il Maestro puts him in pole position (which is how he spelled Wout Poels in his team submission). Chris Harper finding the race one day too long, and Jan Hirt finally riding into his legs, seems to have cost Nightowl any chance of the win.

Barring any unfortunate DNFs or time and places lost by a slow final victory lap, the chances of scoring are pretty much those I have identified as sprinters above. DJSprtsch is the only manager in the top ten not included in that analysis, but he has no sprinter since the withdrawal of Groves. There are some sprinters outside the ciclamino top ten that could move into it an steal a handful of points from some picks, but I don't think that will be significant.

Even if Tarozzi loses the 10th place he has held on to in the ciclamino, BsAs will stay ahead of Bicycle Boy so long as Tarozzi finishes within 9:37 of Paaschens.

That would be pretty impressive given that he was a DNF on stage 11.
D'oh: I had forgotten, and only ran my name down the list of names, rather than the GC current scores column which I usually do to refresh my memory about who is still in the race.

@mikks shares with @Leadbelly and @Kazistuta the misfortune of having 4 DNFs in the team. Mikks has the biggest spend on non-finishers (1870): more than half the budget.

Stage 21

If you have the Eternal City and the Trophy without End, I suppose time gaps can't really be meaningful.

Purply points (as I think Milan just called them)

Not the most obvious bunch of sprinters, so not many scorers

Final standings

As I had suspected, a Milan win brings late but significant rises for Nightowl and DJW from the middle of the top ten, but more importantly, Il Maestro moves into the lead for the first, and only, time.

Thanks to all players, the riders, and both PCS and CQ.

Fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth also exactly the same in the overall and the ciclamino, the minor jersey has never had less added value.

GG Ilmaestro, it has to be considered a deserved win. As for myself, not dissatisfied with sixth even if I was expecting more after Blockhaus.

Thank you @Armchair Cyclist for the game and for the daily updates. As a first time player I have enjoyed it a lot. It added a bit of extra interest to a giro that I didn't consider that entertaining.

Personally (as is often the case at the giro) I feel a bit fortunate, with so many teams having Groves, pellizzari and van etvelt and therefore being unlucky. I took a gamble that pellizzari peaked too early in tour of the alpes, but he should be a podium level rider.

I did think it was obvious that Mas wouldn't perform here though.

When Milan looked awful on day 1, Soler crashed out and Gee lost a minute, I already thought I was out of it, and only after the first week did I notice I was still doing ok and took more of an interest. So yeah it's never over until it's over

In the end looks like the consistency of hindley, arensmen and gee, well supported by Hirt and Milan, got me over the line. Got to feel sorry for armchair who lost the podium on the last day.

As a winner on CQ game debut, it can only go downhill from here.

Thanks for organising and congratz to the winners.
For the final standings should we accumulate the "final standings" + "pink points"?

The pink points (all CQ points gained by the rider in the Giro)are the main competition: purple points (stage points only) are very much the minor classification.[

Fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth also exactly the same in the overall and the ciclamino, the minor jersey has never had less added value.
Yeah, I always hope that might keep more people interested for longer: I suppose it gave RhD something to look for at least.

I'll take a bit of a dive into the numbers this evening, I hope.

Congrats mate. well done

26 of our 36 players had also been in the Spring Classics game, so there are 26 in the field for the 4 Seasons trophy (well, there's no trophy, but by all means get yourself a pizza if you win it)

@DJW has been consistent, with a 2nd in the classics and 3rd in the Giro: before you conclude that I am also consistent, look at who is 86th in the season long main game.

Late thank you to Armchair for hosting and congrats to ilmaestro on the win. The less said about my performance, the better.
