2026 Tour de France CQ game

True, but we all know he aint staying 3rd in GC till the end of the tour. But that stage placement would have stood. And I beloeve he could have easily come second instead of Simmons, if the switched the leadout

so, depending on stage 6, if Traeen can hang in there, RHD is likely to build an almost unassailable lead since noone can have P or V?

so, depending on stage 6, if Traeen can hang in there, RHD is likely to build an almost unassailable lead since noone can have P or V?
Well even if he holds yellow past tomorrow, Traeen won't keep getting 532 points a day. But those 20 points a day for wearing yellow could continue for 10 days or so. But if we take a fairly good scenario for Traeen and say that the time gained yesterday and the resultant confidence boost mean he finishes say 7th on GC, then Redhead will lose 370 GC projected points. And riders like Lipowitz, Seixas and Ayuso will probably gain points in passing him. So take the net 200 points off her current total, and you have some idea where she might end up. (Sorry RhD)

Equally the teams with Quinn (7 of the top eight) won't keep that boost to their rankings all the way to Paris, so the results table will compact somewhat.

And if we agree that Vacek and De Bruyne also have artificially high GC placings on account of yesterday's breakaway, then we need to go all the way down to Leadbelly in 12th to find a team with a realistic projection of their GC points.

This is fairly normal for a sprint stage: little change to scores beyond the stage points and maybe adjustment in the green jersey rankings. A few riders will usually not finish on the same time, and will drop some places, Van Eetvelt is the highest placed to do so today.

Veistroffer scored 25 points in the TdF Green Jersey competition today. They brought him into 17th place in that table. CQ give points to the top 10 riders in that classification at the end of the Tour: I update the top ten in the classification each day, and show them as though each day were the end of the Tour.

The game is based on CQ points (projected to be) earned, not the Tour's reckoning tables that determine those positions. Thus you have 5 points from the green jersey classification among your yellow points, because Merlier is currently 7th in that classification.

What I call the green points in the game are points from finishing in the top 10 in any stage, distributed 80-50-35-25-15-10-5-3-2-1, because those are the points CQ give for stage results (plus TTT stage points, already discussed at some length higher in the thread).

My impression is that you devised this game to show off your maths skills. Thanks

Is it just me or is it simply the nature of the TDF, (this is my first time to play TDF game) but I was not able to find any super obvious must-have picks—aka Seixas or Cosnefroy earlier in the year, whose balance between price and quality was so favourable that they sorta automatic picks.

To me, only Carapaz was obligatory this year.

It isn't always like that, though - last year Vingegaard was available at 1735 and Gall at 543. As a result, in the final standings, the top 22 teams all had Vingegaard and 15 of the top 17 had Gall.

I guess the fact that pricing is based on 12 months to a week before the event means that riders on form are not as cheap as they might have been in the full-season game. If Seixas is going to get you points in the 'Main Game' that Skidmark runs, he will do so at a cost of 661 points: whatever he does for you here will have cost 1601 points.

If there are obvious picks that nearly everyone takes, then it is the marginal, probably low budget, picks that make the difference. Decisions like Sean Quinn for 46 points of Jake Stewart for 60 can become vital. Does that make it more of a lottery, or more skilled?

Arvid de Kleijn out. That will teach me to not listen to pre tour interviews. Mr 'I would pick myself'. Bummer.

Merlier was a popular pick, but Kazistuta went a bit sprinter mad in his selection, with Kooij, Girmay and (no longer in the race) De Kleijn as well. Merlier and Girmay scoring for him today. Dogboy has his unique pick Kanter as well as Merlier.

Standings

Very much in the same order as today's points, except that one of the Merlier teams has a couple of Kooij + Seixas + Carapaz teams preventing all the Merlier teams ahead of all those without him.

Last edited:
I thought I had a chance of a better result today, but I forgot that CQ are even more generous with the points for the winner than ASO and less kind to the minor placed riders.

So in today's greens.
Kazistuta (Merlier, Girmay & Kooij) 165
DJSprtsch, Hayneplane, PostmanHat, Shakes, Triley36 get 115 for Merlier & Kooij
80 points for the rest of the Merlier teams (and an extra couple for Dogboy through Kanter)
Then the other 4 Girmay teams, followed by the other nine Kooij teams
Samu has two unique picks in the top ten in Bittner and Pluimers

And the standings are very much the same
Top 4 the same as yesterday
Dogboy drops a couple of places to make the top 6 all Merlier + Kooij
and the top 15 all have Merlier.

And in terms of the Yellow points, it is pretty much the same story.
Merlier and Kooij gained places in the points classification: Girmay and Kanter lost some
De Bruynne losing 10 points was as major as it got in the GC position point differences.

So the daily fluctuations are largely as described in the green section.

And as far as the standings are concerned, Leadbelly overtakes Search for 3rd, and Kazistuta leaps 10 places to 5th. Hayneplane and Triley both have jumps of 7 places to get into 6th and 9th respectively

Farther down, PostmanHat, Shakes and Maglia Nera all move up at least 6 places, while DJW, Armchair, ZigZag and Slow Climber all drop at east 7 places.

If you want to know more, then I'm afraid I can only direct you to the spreadsheet. If you want the swings, order by column H, and by column B if you are looking for the Green standings.

And I've no idea where I stand for the rest of the game updates if I can't export tables...

For me, I would still enjoy the update, if you just post your text commentary and link the excel, just as you did, thank you for the update!

Maybe all it needed was a reboot on my laptop: can't image why that should make the difference, but I don't know what else it might have been

Maybe some optimism for this evening's update...

(If you saw the briefly posted version of this table with a load of coding nonsense, that was experimenting with pasting directly from Excel without running it through the converter, which was not successful)

A breakaway chased harder than they probably expected.

I have applied the tie-breaker, which is the least reliance on a single rider, on this table to pairs on the same score So both Hayneplane and Postman Hat have Merlier and Kooij, but as the third place rider Hayneplane has Carapaz with 35 points, while Postman Hat relies less than that on 22 point Vauquelin, so PostmanHat gets second. The same principle is applied in the main classification.

LeadBelly and Madrazo have exactly the same scores from riders in this category, so there is a further tiebreaker (best finish by a rider with no top tens that they don't have in common), but that's a bit too much research for the sake of 16th and 17th at this stage tbh. (the next level of tiebreak in the main game os best placed rider that is not in the top 50)

Yellow points

Like in a sprint stage, breakaway wins often have little effect beyond stage points. Girmay passes Merlier in the points classification, with a 15 point move either way for their managers here, and riders outside the top ten may have gained a small something from Vacek dropping out of the main group. Vacek, and to a lesser extent Parra, Tejada and Higuita

Standings

We've not seen major change, other than Kazistuta leaping up the table on sprint stages, for a while. As soon as there is any movement of position in the top ten on GC, that should change. But when might that be.

I subsequently looked it up: Leadbelly's Robbe Dhondt has the best such finish at 60th, so current 16th place belongs to him.

even with pidders and ganna i am determined not to let Lecko catch up with me.
Might Pidders have won without the mechanical? his hope must have been to do something downhill. trying to win a sprint vs VDP was a bit of a stretch. he has to be hunting a couple of wins and top ten.
on wednesday i was going to ask if i could sell him. he is still touch and go.........
