I do not mean to jinx Alberto, but he is about to join a select group of riders who have won the Tour de France THREE times:

Three riders have won three times:

Philippe Thys in 1913, 1914, and 1920;
Louison Bobet in 1953, 1954, and 1955;
Greg LeMond in 1986, 1989, and 1990.

Bobet was able to win his Tours consecutively, but the other's accomplishments are nothing to be sneezed at either!

Especially not when you get shot between tdf victories, and forced to miss 2 tdfs as a result.

For me Lemonds are consecutive. So are Contadors since he was made to miss 2008 through politics.

Yay! It's the Virtual Tour Wins game again. We all know that LeMond won at least 6 or 7 V-TdFs:

1985, when he was held back by "politics"; 1986; 1987 and 1988 when he would have been the best had he not been shot; 1989 and 1990, of course; and perhaps even 1991-- since he was the only person in the peloton who wasn't doping, everyone else in 1991 is Virtually DQ'd, leaving Greg not only the winner of the Virtual Maillot Jeune, but the green and polka-dot jerseys as well.
