7 mths off the bike

Hi all,

Unfortunately I had spent the last 7mths off the bike. Yesterday was second ride back on my indoor trainer. What should I be doing to regain my fitness levels for this spring ?

Along with my strict diet to shed the weight, I am thinking of;

breaking my days/weeks into intervals, pyramid intervals, muscle building (big ring) , and steady state endurance for building up my base again.

All my work will be on my indoor trainer until April.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thx

Are you going to be racing? My answer is of you are NOT. In reading your post All I could think of was the plan you have would keep me on the couch because there is nothing in it I would look forward to. A little formal training is good and structure helps reach goals but whether you are returning to racing or just looking to be fit again put more fun into your program. What ever you do it must motivate you to ride your bike. Fitness will follow. Now if you need to be racing well that advice can come from a coach :)

Not sure about training structure - some of the coaches here will know more about that - but on the motivation side of things, consider one of those Tacx systems or any other brand that allows you to race and train against a program on a computer or TV via HDMI. A much cheaper option would be lots and lots of cycling DVDs, especially the Gran Fondo training route ones.

Best of luck.
