Is Sagan really doing this? He did not mention it in the last interview about his program.
The organizers announced his participation 10 days ago. They were also hoping GVA would ride too but apparently it's not the case.
I think the fact that's a WT race and a good preparation for Roubaix attracted him.

Don't know why GVA won't ride, I know there is E3 and GW but its still a cobbled WT race.

Just curious. Does Sagan having bib number 9 in group while Bennett is 1 mean he is riding for Bennett or because he is late addition?

With a number 9 it means that he was a reserve for this race at the beginning.

Thanks for that info. That makes the race a whole lot more interesting. Notice when they announced Sagan's participation organisers were still hoping to tempt GVA to ride.

Very good lineup, good they promoted it to WT.

Considering its the smallest of the 3 upcoming races, I say we are in for a surprise. Naesen, Matthews, Keukeleure, Gallopin, Phil Gil or Gaviria? Or just Peter smashing the Kwaremont and trying to beat that strava segment at Flanders to keep him motivated.

This just screams overkill. Two races in 3 days on basically the SAME parcours with (almost) the same riders. Meh. DDV was good how it was, the young prospects making a serious goal of it vs the occasional top rider showing up and using it as prep.

The added cobble section at the end, i.e. the Herlegemstraat, is the same cobbled stretch that was added to Nokere Koerse this year, but in Nokere Koerse they only did the beginning of it, here they will do all of it. Even if it's a few 100 meters longer, the cobbles of Herlegemstraat didn't do much in Nokere Koerse; I doubt they'll be significant here. Well I guess in the deep finale of a hard race even very easy cobbles can provide a last opportunity for somebody to try and escape from a small group or something. I like finale's like that, where the hard part and the real selection is further away from the finish but where there are still a few obstacles that provide an opportunity for riders who want to avoid a sprint with a small group to go solo.

So the whole overkill revolves around it being WT now? Seems right-ish. I've never had a problem with DDV being a cobbled race that can be won by 'lesser' riders

Yep. It might also devaluate E3 as THE benchmark for de Ronde (ok, G Thomas and Kwia already messed a bit with that narrative lately but it's usually an important yardstick), which would be a shame. Some might use DDV as one of the final tests, some E3,..

Indeed, like when the Topsport guys beat the world champ in 2015. That was great.

I say the more top-level racing, the better, especially in this kind of terrain. After all there aren't that many cobbled classics. Im probably greedy that way, but Im far more entertained when the best riders duke it out than 3rd tier riders. There are many other races for that purpose.

I'm more entertained by good racing and it doesn't matter if it's the big names or no name Conti riders, in fact I often find the 2nd/3rd tier races and riders to be more entertaining as WT racing can be quite boring as the races are more controlled by the big teams making the races and results predictable. In saying that we have seen some good racing at WT level this season, one of the better starts to a season I've seen.
