The mods decided to move the first topic to the clinic, something that was never done with any other race. I think it's disrespectful to the Volta which is always entertaining and has a rich history.

I want to talk about the race and lo and behold I can't do it in the place with that purpose!

So, today we have an easy stage that provides a opportunity for the sprinters to shine. Maybe even the break can take the win.

Second stage win for Riccardo Stacchioti. Efapel worked the entire stage and in the final their sprinter, Daniel Mestre, was only 18th. It's been a rather disappointing race so far for Efapel.

the bigger story of today's stage was how Rui Vinhas arrived in Viseu

Dj7E-k7W0AIC-Z8.jpg

allegedly crashed with a Israel CA car. he has no memory of it, and details are unknown. tomorrow is rest day. we'll see if he'll start wednesday

only 12 withdraws so far. not bad

4 after yesterday's MTF - so amazing, as it's still 30 C.

Rui Vinhas did not even finish last - 2 came in after him.

I can't disagree with the mods, sorry. Sometimes you need to stop the car before the engine blows up.

Too bad that this beautiful race with so much design potential has become a joke over the years. I wish that the Volta grows to be a premier stage race. It can be the Dauphine of the south. More than a prep for an upcoming GT, a major date on the calendar.

You already have that. It's called Volta Algarve. ;) Not as a GT prep, but a season prep for teams like Sky or Quick-Step. The Vuelta build up for those, who have not done the TdF, is Burgos. It's a five day race with an okay, sometimes really good line-up. When you have done the Tour, you take a rest.

To make a race like A Volta into something for the international calendar, you need to cut down stages. This was once a three week stage race. I don't want it cut down. ;) So you could still promote one of the national 4 to 7 stage races into something on a 2.HC or ever WT level.

Sanz of Euskadi takes it on Viana do Castelo. Alarcón was on the front for quite long, just too much for him to last to the line.

It'll probably end in a restricted sprint. Those final climbs are not that hard and selective.

This was more selective than I thought due to a hard pace and Edgar Pinto attacking. Vicente de Mateos was the fastest in the small group and easily won the stage.

Hagen of Team Coop seems to be around the top ten almost every stage. Never heard of him before this race.

Alto da Barra is the same climb as the Alto Campanhó that created an interesting escape group in 2010, with Rui Sousa and Hernâni Brôco interjecting themselves into the GC mix along with Márcio Barbosa.

I really expect Joni Brandão to try something and the stage makes that possible.
