80ª Volta a Portugal em Bicicleta (1 a 12 de Agosto de 2018)

The mods decided to move the first topic to the clinic, something that was never done with any other race. I think it's disrespectful to the Volta which is always entertaining and has a rich history.

I want to talk about the race and lo and behold I can't do it in the place with that purpose!

So, today we have an easy stage that provides a opportunity for the sprinters to shine. Maybe even the break can take the win.

Second stage win for Riccardo Stacchioti. Efapel worked the entire stage and in the final their sprinter, Daniel Mestre, was only 18th. It's been a rather disappointing race so far for Efapel.

the bigger story of today's stage was how Rui Vinhas arrived in Viseu

I can't disagree with the mods, sorry. Sometimes you need to stop the car before the engine blows up.

Too bad that this beautiful race with so much design potential has become a joke over the years. I wish that the Volta grows to be a premier stage race. It can be the Dauphine of the south. More than a prep for an upcoming GT, a major date on the calendar.

You already have that. It's called Volta Algarve. ;) Not as a GT prep, but a season prep for teams like Sky or Quick-Step. The Vuelta build up for those, who have not done the TdF, is Burgos. It's a five day race with an okay, sometimes really good line-up. When you have done the Tour, you take a rest.

To make a race like A Volta into something for the international calendar, you need to cut down stages. This was once a three week stage race. I don't want it cut down. ;) So you could still promote one of the national 4 to 7 stage races into something on a 2.HC or ever WT level.
