in the vuelta's stage 7 preview there is a quote from bingen fernandez: "The key issue here will be if the wind starts to blow and which direction it comes from. When I rode the Vuelta in April, the wind in this area used to be hell but it does drop in September. If it does blow, it could easily split the peloton."
does this mean he rode this year's vuelta course [last] april or does it mean he rode the vuelta in 1994 (or earlier) when it was still held in april? if the latter, in what capacity did he ride it? as i understand it, he turned pro in 1996, the second year of the vuelta's september start. "used to be" seems to imply the latter.
