It seems as appropriate a time as any to post something like this; given the recent release of the first three stages of the 2013 TDF.
A lot of us almost live (in our lives as cycling fans
) for the parcours of races, in particular the Giro, Tour and Vuelta. But how about this for a suggestion (and a way to stuff up a riders preparation with late revelations of stages
)?
There is little to interest the cycling fan from November through to February (unless you love that race in Adelaide), so most of the Giro/TDF parcours can be revealed then, but I was thinking of 3 stages being revealed every fortnight. Giro has its first 18 stages revealed by the end of January, then has a break. The TDF likewise from December-February. In April the final 3 stages of the Giro are revealed (this could all work as long as there are no more leaks!) and in June the last 3 of the Tour. The Vuelta can be shown to us at different phases of the racing season. It could keep parcours freaks on the edge of their seat, as well as potentially throwing a spanner in the works; Andy Schleck has his Giro dreams dashed by a 65 km ITT on stage 19, while Tony Martin has to kiss his yellow jersey dreams goodbye when an apparently TT dominated TDF reveals an 8 col 250 km rollercoaster for stage 19.
