Who else other than Nibs. It will be a good battle for the other podium places though.

reserve my judgement until after first MTF stage, won't believe it until I see it. But odds right now favor Nibali.:D

If he hadnt lost that 1 minute which was essentially a total fluke, id say Scarponi.

With the minute lost however i think Nibali is very slight favourite over Evans, then Wiggins, Scarponi and Gesink but essentially, anyone can win.

22% - Nibali
20% - Evans
18%-Wiggins
16% Scarponi
14% Gesink
8 % Hejsedal
2% -someone else.

This poll reminds me of something which happened in the close past, but in a previous era of cycling:

Who will win the 2011 Vuelta a Espana? (Sept. 1 2011)
Vincenzo Nibali 65
Bradley Wiggins 23
Bauke Mollema 12
Joaquin Rodriguez 2
Chris Froome 0
Frederik Kessiakoff 12
Denis Menchov 0
Jakob Fuglsang 1
Jurgen van den Broeck 1
Other (please specify) 1

Fill in the names of this Giro's contenders for yourselves.

Nibali has the biggest shot at winning this.(hence his But Evans keeps impressing me far more than any other contender. He looks at ease, while Nibali has to handle the stress of the jersey, and he'll have a much busier rest day. Let's wait how Tuesday's stage shifts the GC balance.

Nibali looks very solid, but so do others and there are riders that have taken time out of him in the mountains before.

Samu can get back in it too. He'll need to attack anyway to get his stage win, because he's team leader and an experienced pro.

First week is always a good indicator of form & mostly concentration in the race.

So Nibali has shown his full commitment towards the title with a great ITT & placement on key stages-which shows strength & tactics, although Vincenzo has yet to manage two tough weeks of climbs & most of all-avoid at all costs his infamous "one bad day" issue on a crucial stage where he may well lose the maglia rosa & the overall GC....

Scarponi to me is the next man that can do damage coming the mountains where he'll be good. his early time loss will be the regretful factor at the end of the race where he may well have won it had he not lost those precious seconds during the 1st week. stage win is on his reach.

As far as third I have Wiggo IF he manages to clear his head-but then again- this first week he's shown a terrible lack of concentration & seems to be very fragile mentally. Then is Evans, which is well positioned at the moment & with his consistency, he may well be able to capture the podium spot. Santamborgio could surprise since the race now heads to his terrain, where he can profit dearly & perhaps have a spell on the Maglia Rosa. A real pity on my man Henao to be downgraded to fulfill his commitment to Wiggo when he could well grasp podium honors-but we'll see how the race develops. Gesink.....just can't bet on him with his past record:D-but so far, so good.

overall- a great 1st week & 2 more to go with a hell of a race ahead of us.

so that's it.:)

where did this come from?
He won 2010 Vuelta by consistency not winning a single stage

Henao and Uran missing from poll

Sky could use one of these to attack Nibali and he might end in Pink.

Is it possible Wiggins' ego won't allow that to happen?

giro 2010:
zoncolan and gavia stages

Vuelta 2010:
Andorra and cotobello stages

Giro 2011:
Val di fassa and finestre stages

tour de france 2012: peyragurdes stage

he always has bad days some worse then others but he always has at least 1 bad day, particularly when it is more then 2 days in the mountains in a row

a little weak but not a bad day, you can't win every MTF

Giro 2011:
Val di fassa and finestre stages
Yes, this indeed is a bad day for him

tour de france 2012: peyragurdes stage
knee injury

But Nibali never won just one.

that is the point I am trying to make, he won by consistency, not one day high, next day drop the bomb.

And in that Vuelta, he kinda gifted that stage away to Mosquera.

Before Evans won the Tour, isn't people always saying oh he would have a bad day in the mountain?

Before JR really challenged the Giro, isn't people here always saying oh he would have a bad day in the mountain?

:D
