Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone from around the Madrid area might have some info on the racing scene in the area. Mostly road races - but would be interested if there are mountain bike or cross races in Casa del Campo or other places in the Winter too? Or a link to a good club to joing in the area? I should be moving to Madrid sometime over the next few months, so any information would be great!

Cheers!

I am from Madrid, although I don´t live there anymore:

Calendar: http://www.fmciclismo.com/fmc3/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=290 Those are just the official races organized by the Madrid Cycling Federation

More importantly, get into one club, it is quite important. There are 218 in Madrid, organized by location http://www.fmciclismo.com/fmc3/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=261

I do not know if you will live in the city, or outside. The best routes are in the North and the West of Madrid Region (including of course many mountains and great MTB). The West has quite a lot of cycling tradition, both in Madrid or the neighboring province of Avila. Anyway it is in the most "boring" (dry, flatter) training areas of the South and East were probably there is more tradition (i.e. Contador comes from there), also in the neighboring provinces of Cuenca and Toledo.

I know some clubs, so if you tell me to which area will you move I may know some good options.

Hey great - thanks alot, 218 clubs.....sounds like there should be a good racing scene then! I did some MTB out by El Escorial once - really nice out there.

I'm not sure where exactly I'll be yet - probably out to the west of Casa de Campo - definitely the west side of the City. Maybe I can message you when I know where I'll be in a few months then for a recommendation for a club - thank again!

I can recommend you two clubs.
If you want to ride on road, your club can be Club Ciclista Chamartín. The oldest cycling club in Madrid. They ride every sunday mourning from Bravo Murillo Street to differents places. They can be 70 riders, more or less, every sunday. They ride along a known 40 kms cycling road, without cars. The routes are differents but from april to june, very sunday they climb the most significant mountains of Madrid: Morcuera, Canencia, Navacerrada, Los Leones, Navafría, Cotos... You can discover more details in its website.
If you want to ride off road, with your mtb, the Club Trek Mammoth is a good option, with diferents levels. It has website too.
For a daily trainning, the Casa de Campo is the best option, on road and off road.
Good luck and enjoy Madrid.

If you're interested in racing in January and willing to move (take a flight), you could go to try any stage at Vuelta a la Marina in Benidorm area.
