With cadence? and how does the multi sport function work out on the 310?

I am considering getting either of these over the edge 500 or 800. I primarily cycle. 50/50 mtn road. not concerned with cadence on the mountain bike but it is important on the roadie for me. I have forced myself to return to trail running and jogging and it has been a benefit to my fitness. the idea that I can use one unit is appealing.

internet reviews are black and white. best ever or worst ever like all internet reviews and not useful imho.

I use the Garmin 305 for running. Used to use it for cycling too, but then bought the Garmin 705 which replaced it for cycling. But I cannot really comment on your question b/c I don't know enough about the Garmin 500 or 800 and have no experience with either of these computers. However, for what it is worth, I really liked the Garmin 305. Did everything I wanted, in both running and cycling, at least until I got a PowerTap. For your purposes, I would recommend a Garmin. Definitely much better than my experiences with Polar computers.

I have the 310XT. Its great for multi-sport, although I have only used it once for that purpose. It was a run/cycle I did and I could customise it to how I wanted.

I found the Cadence sensor pretty rubbish on my mountain bike, it kept slipping on trails.

The watch itself is great 99% of the time. I have had 2-3 issues when uploading to Garmin connect. My workouts disappeared and it happened to be times when I had done an event, which was seriously frustrating.

I would give it 4/5 and would probably buy again despite the issues I have had. I came from a Polar device, that was a nightmare. Half the time it didn't work. I guess that's why I can take the odd problem with my Garmin.
