Appreciation/Depreciation Depreciation Thread

Do we really need a separate thread for each and every opinion of each and every rider??

What is this forum turning into?

It feels like one big argument/debate about personal prefs....and a lot of slinging cr@p about.

Merge them will be the equivalent of putting out a fire with gasoline.

I dare you to try it, the forum bans and forum fights to come will make for epic reading. Just send me a PM before you do so I can go get some popcorn and a drink ready. :D

Agreed its becoming tiresome to see X rider appreciation/deprecation threads come up if they even do one thing properly/badly.

people can disagree without insulting each other, if they can't do that it only means they have nor arguments left.

I agree these threads are tiresome.

I am not sure as moderators we can be responsible for what people choose to post as long as it falls within the guidelines of decency and relevance. We can advise folk (as we do) to check if there is a thread that suits a topic rather than start a new one but...

In my experience boring stuff just drops off the boards by itself pretty quickly.

But happy to hear thoughts from folk.

Would it be a good idea to create a new sub forum for separate rider threads?

Don't hold your breath on things like that. We volunteer admin don't have any control over forum structure and CN are not very responsive to requests of this sort.

So I would put that one on the back burner.

I say merge them. Cause usually, by page 2 you cannot even differentiate which one's appreciation which one's depreciation thread, without looking at the title

Excuse me but you don't know who you are talking to.

I don't think you are old enough to even understand what a 'hippie' is.

Okay well it was supposed to be a joke but apparently not a good one  (I disagree but will bend to public opinion)

BTW the thread I started was a joke too (thought that was quite obvious), supposed to be a thinly-veiled parody and criticism of depreciation threads. All that must have gotten lost in translation ....

So I'm on your side sister .... peace and love ....

I think they're good. While sometimes it can be a bit ridiculous that a rider just wins a stage and gets a thread, like Pozzovivo, that thread actually allows for a coherent discussion about the rider. The alternative is that discussions about individual riders either clog up or get drowned out by the race thread. Then you have the long-standing threads for big, controversial riders like Andy and Cav - these I think are really a necessity, it goes some way to prevent threads being clogged up with Flor vs Airstream or Pisti vs me just talking about one rider. It looks stupid sometimes, and I think the appreciation and depreciation threads out to be merged, but the alternative is probably worse.

So if they're merged will they be with the depreciation or appreciation in the title :p

If and that's if because I'm sure the forum features will probably take weeks if not months since it takes an act of supreme power to do anything with the forum software, I can't wait till a thread is started with the depreciation moniker before the other :D

They are horrible, surely we can analyse things at deeper levels.

"He attacked and was good, lets all celebrate rider X".

I think the place for emotional response is during/immediately after a race but now it seems like it is mandatory at any point of discussion. I think we all make our own judgements whilst watching cycling but I would prefer to be reserved about expressing such feelings. What is important is what happened and why it happened, not how we feel about it.

So then why have the other sections in the forum? Race threads and nothing else. Or just don't go to the sections/threads you don't like to read?

How did you get that out of my post?

Can't we can discuss everything and anything without reverting to basic +1/-1?

Most appreciation/depreciation threads are a result of what happened the day before on the road, so that is why I made that particular link.
