So I have heard snippet of story that recently ASADA turned up to a local race with the intention of testing the whole masters field. And that 4 riders took their numbers off and refused to be tested...thereby automatically copping a ban from competition.

Can anyone confirm or embellish?

i've not heard that one, which is not to suggest it didn't happen. what i do understand is that the cost of testing is borne by the sporting body, not ASADA, and that it's really expensive. that makes me wonder about who could possibly have afforded it. i don't believe ASADA would be paying.

If a rider wants a record ride verified, they pay for it. If CA want testing done, they would pay for it.

If ASADA come to do testing, at random - I would think they would have to pay for it.

yep. apparently they struggle to do much testing at the NRS.

as far as i am aware, they never test the whole field, even on the World Tour. seems unlikely they would do it at a measly local vets race.

It seems more likely that it was a scenario similar to what has played out in the U.S.. Word gets around there will be testing and the sketchy guys, who everyone suspects, suddenly decide they are needed back home, pronto.

It sounds like a bit of a furphy, but in any case emails have been sent to the Master's Commission for Cycling Victoria (Stuart Campbell, Laurie Noonan and Bill Upston) to find out.

The other inquiries made so far have no knowledge of it, but these are the guys who will know for certain whether the rumour is true.

Would love to know more details on this! Which state / race, at least. ASADA should have their names listed on the website too, eventually? Any idea how long they were banned for?

As for testing the whole field (rereading PO) : nuh uh. Maybe taking samples to retrotest, but actually testing them? Doubt it!

Official response received. Unfortunately it can't be posted as a result of the mods.

If anyone wants the info, you need to go get it yourself.

Regards,

Peter

Without posting the official response, surely you are at least permitted to give an indication of the circumstances and outcomes in a general sense (i.e. without naming names, clubs, events, etc if that is where the sensitivity lies)?

What if I simply ask whether the rumour was completely unfounded and refuted by CA?

That would be very sad on a couple of levels as @Harryhanley
recently tweeted that there were no testers in Perth on day 1
of the Masters Track Nationals so Lisa Hanley will not have her
world record pursuit ride ratified.

I can assure you, not even the WADA/USADA have the resources and financing to test an entire field of competitors.

At $750/per person, that isn't happening with any race.

They keep threatening to come down and random test in Florida as part of the Clean Ride Fund.

Haven't heard/seen USADA anywhere, and the season is pretty much over for the year with the exception of about 4 big races, and one being the State Championships....so I'm sure any idiot can figure out they will be at the State Championships to do a few.

But with limited funds, massive testing just isn't happening anywhere on planet Earth in cycling.

I saw their names somewhere. Their names are ZZYZX, RSTLNE, ASPCA, and XYZPDQ.

Just doing whatever I can to help.

Well ASADA did manage to test an Australian Rules club in 2014/2015 who played in what would be termed the third level of sport in Victoria - This is a VERY uncommon occurrence, if not ground-breaking, at this level of competition - Of course the name Dank must have been linked to the drug tests - ASADA can be a vindictive body, one that is unbecoming of an NDO.
