Aussies don't dope

Seeing as how we have the 'Brits don't dope' thread, I thought I'd examine whether the accusations made against the Brits could be justifiably raised against other Anglo-Saxon heritage countries.

For my sins, I'm married to an Aussie, and for quite a few years he insisted that cheating is alien to aussie culture and the fallout would be so bad from aussie countrymen that it would just never happen (may sound familiar if you've every read a Wiggo book). Obviously this is horsesh1t in the extreme, and I never tired of telling him so. He accepts it now, but out of interest I went and had a little look and found this gem from OricaGreenedge's website

"“Orica-GreenEDGE is a clean team and our commitment to being clean has been a foundation principle of the team since the day of its inception,” team owner Gerry Ryan said."

"“To maintain public confidence in our strict adherence to this principle OGE has appointed an eminent and independent external expert to audit the rigour and effectiveness of the team’s anti-doping policies and procedures.”

"OGE owner Gerry Ryan said: “Professional cycling is at a cross roads. The future of the sport is being determined by what we do today. OGE will not step back from taking any necessary decision to protect the integrity of the sport and the team and to restore the confidence of cycling fans around the world.”

It’s time to put our values to work,” Ryan said. “OGE believes a hard-line approach is an essential pre-requisite to continue in the sport with credibility.”

At least they don't make so much publicity out of it as our beloved Mr. "TeamClean", Jonathan of Vaughters.

Of course the 'clean from its foundation' OGE hired. Ex-usps doper Matt White just to give it that extra bright cleanness that ordinary DSs can't manage :)

With Stephens, Gerrans and Impey on board I feel that there's enough stuff at GreenEdge to outclinic the majority of WT teams.

I don't know about dope but with those three on board there is certainly more than enough to send us all to sleep.

Well, Tom D put a stop to that ;)
Vaughter's ideas are transcendent. An MBA makes sense. I'd hire him... If I was the president of DOW Chemicals and wanted the general public to believe my products are safe and good for the environment. I mean, you gotta hand it to the guy: internal testing, marginal gains, calibration errors... Even if he didn't germinate the idea, you'd still have to credit him for their masterful promotion.

I'm only just starting to read up on logical fallacies and the like, and the trolling nature of this thread seemed as good a place as any to start my analysis. Is this an example of "argument from hearsay"?

No Australian as far as I am aware will defend any such notion that Aussies don't dope. Count me as the first Aussie vote of nae for the thread. Aussies do dope, just like all other professional athletes.

The very recent football doping revelations proves there is no issue with doping for Aussie fans of various sports. Just like any other country populated by human beings (vs bridge dwelling creatures), people are fans first and outraged anti-doping crusaders a distant millionth.

Gerrans was a big time defender of Lance.

Orica are as clean as Astana. Vino told me.

Do you have a link to him defending Armstrong?

Cant find the link yet, but clearly remember Gerrans defending Armstrong before Reason Decision. Think when he was on Sky!

In 2009 Gerrans spent time with Armstrong in Aspen Colorado after Gerrans rode the Giro.

I can't think of a single Aussie rider who I'd consider to be clean.

Honest toil, the Ashes, Alf Stewart, XXXX, throw another shrimp on the barbie.

It was Gerrans, Armstrong, Leipheimer and Horner.

Without dope Gerrans would be struggling to hold wheels at Pro Conti level just like he was in the Commonwealth Bank Classic before he went to Europe. A chemical creation.

Nice guy though.

At WT level, sure. There's a few at Pro Conti who I'd happily say are clean like Darren Lapthorne, Mal Rudolph and Jack Anderson.
