I think Evans, Meares, Meyer and Porte are all hard to separate. I think it's easy to forgot just how good the first half of the season was for Cuddles.

Evans/Meyer > Meares/Porte > Davis > Corset

Something like that, I would have Rogers and Matthews both ahead of Davis and Corset.

Has to be Evans, he had a fantastic start of season run as well as being the raining world champ throughout the season. Close behind is Porte as a bit of a revelation.

I voted Evans... Pretty easy decision. I guess an argument could be made for Meares or Meyer on the track but that doesn't top Evans IMO.

He has two excellent wins with Fleche Wallonne and Stage 7 of the Giro, which certainly none of the other roadies can top, took the Giro points jersey, and has Top-5 finishes in the Giro, Liege, and Tirreno and he wore yellow for a day in the Tour. Maybe he wasn't quite as good as he's been in previous years, but he was still very strong.

Evans for the Giro stage

I voted for Cadel, not just because of the results themselves, but how he got them - and how he had a crack a number of times without it coming off.

From the TDU to the Worlds he gave it a red hot go.

Yep that Porte really blew Cuddles away this season. A stage win at the Tour of Romandie, and a day in pink because of Laquilla. Breakthrough of the decade:rolleyes:

Seriously how is this even close. Cuddles was one of the riders of the year. The fact that Portes meh season was his debut does not compensate for the gulf in performance and achievment.

Well, somehow meyer won australian cyclist fo the year last night. Yes I was quite shocked. Evans surely deserved even if it wasn't his best year. I imagine that Cycling Australia didn't want evans going up there, accepting the award and give a stinging attack of some of the media like last year.

Scody People's Choice Cyclist of the Year - Richie Porte
Mavic Elite Track Cyclist of the Year - Male - Cameron Meyer
Mavic Elite Track Cyclist of the Year - Female - Anna Meares OAM
SBS Television Elite MTB Cyclist of the Year - Male - Jared Graves
SBS Television Elite MTB Cyclist of the Year - Female - Caroline Buchanan
Cycling Central Elite Road Cyclist of the Year - Male - Cadel Evans
Cycling Central Elite Road Cyclist of the Year - Female - Rochelle Gilmore

It shouldn't be too shocking, Meyer is the #1 track cyclist in the world based on his performances in Copenhagen, Evans is not the #1 road cyclist in the world. Lots of us will rate road cycling much higher obviously, but who are we to say that road achievements outweigh track or MTB achievements. Meyer also happens to be an Australian champion, which gets a lot of points in these awards.

Richie Porte getting the popular vote is more surprising, just confirms the level of hype.

No Matthew Lloyd even making the shortlist? And Albie does? That's ridiculous.

Evans, it's pretty obvious.

Yes, Evans.
I assume Albie = Allan Davis. Just for comparison:
Matt Lloyd results in 2010 were:
Mt Classification overall Giro D’Italia
Stage 6 Giro D’Italia

Davis (repeated here for easy comparison)
Tour de Picardie 3rd Overall
Tour of Poland Points Classification Winner
Tour of Poland Leader (2 days)
World Championships RR Bronze
Commonwealth RR Gold

Matt's stage and Mt class win at the Giro should have put him on the list. The Giro results of Davis should trump the Picardie and Poland results, but not sure how the Giro stacks up against the World's and CW RR results.

As good as meyer has been and his 3 world titles is a good acheivement, the points comp, he is just way ahead of the competition and some of the other titles on the track he won, the competition was not really evident. No doubt this guy is one of the best track riders in the world but I think the judges need to put his victories in context.

The national time trial title championship win is a great acheivement but the 3 best time trialists from this country weren't there. Not trying to take anything away from Meyer, but do his wins really weigh up against Evans, Rogers or Porte's results?

I do not want to sownplay how good the guy especially for his age or his acheivements but I think they personally gave it to him because it doesn't make Cycling Australia look that great when Evans gets the award every year.

So where's the Top Cyclist award on that list?

Meyer is deserving. He won the national road time trial and he's been immense on the track.

Being from WA gets him double points automatically too ;)

As my Russian friend says "You're eluded". I think you answered yourself in that first paragraph tbh.

Yes I agree they aren't going to give it to Evans every year.

But, if Meyer didn't win it this year, a track cyclist will never win it. So you either make the Oppy a road only award or reward outstanding performances in the other disciplines when they do occur (which is what Cycling Australia do).

Fair enough, I guess sometimes it does become a road award because of it being the most popular discipline of the sport.

Meyer's road season doesn't really suggest that the no. 1 track cyclist in the world is anywhere near the level of the no. 1 road cyclist. I assume he didn't just pedal along to prepare for his track season.

I'm saying that in my book, Cameron Meyer doesn't come close to Cadel Evans. You should be glad.

Be careful what you wish for, if the UCI's corruption is anything like the FIFA's, we'll soon have a GT in Oman ;)

Sorry, I must make sure that the dutch mafia isn't making an attack on CE or there will be a war between the Durch Mafia/TGBM fans V the members of the religion, Cadelogy.

Or they just want to give the award to a cyclist who broke through?

Kinda like how Greg van Avermaet got the Flandrien award in 2008.
